after seeing the CS5 package and Media Composer in action, they are going to have to bring some pretty amazing to the table. both of those companies, Adobe and Avid, have brought us a next-gen NLE which is fully compatible with native R3D files, no wrapping. Apple had the headstart, but they are falling far behind, fast. They need more than a rumor to keep my attention.

I think the fact that a lot of FCP will be rewritten is pretty obvious - the only thing I really want to know is when it's going to be released!

Seeing is believing and the timeline/wait is frustrating, but since we have seen nothing how do we know they are behind? Maybe they are 2 steps ahead but just not finished with the full package. Bottom line, we just don't know. But there is no reason to think they are just sitting back and ignoring the competition. And they have plenty of money to spend, which bodes well for development efforts - but it also means they can take their time to get it right before releasing (kind of like RED/Epic) since they don't need the cash flow or profits right now.
