  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lot's of neat stuff!

I have not had time to get everything done yet.. Just got back a few days ago and picking up the pieces.

However, other people are posting for whatever reason (I am happy with that) so I've been responding...

That's all. I'm not stalling on purpose

Jay

Tease. :)

Chrosziel

Chrosziel

Chrosziel's name isn't that great in the clients I rent to. But I am interested, what does the MB840 cost including filter trays, upper and side flags and 19mm swingaway?

Not sure whom you rent to, but, the majority of professional rental houses in Hollywood are dedicated to Chrosziel or Arri and some offer both. Rental houses are in the business of stocking items that rent--and Chrosziel's been there for 30+ years.

Brand loyalty is a powerful force. Traditional filmmakers have been faithfully using the competitor's products. Similarly, Chrosziel has its faithful followers in the higher end "digital" world. The emergence of new acquisition methods has caused both brands to enter in each others territory.

In the end, the consumer benefits. :dita:

If you're considering the MMB-1, you need to look at the LMB-5, both by ARRI. Nearly the same price, the LMB-5 has more to offer--but it's not an MB-20.

I'm looking for LED's as well. I passed on the Lightpanels on the basis that their throw power is weak at 12-15 feet, which is the distance need since I want them to replace my 650/1000watt ARRI's. read the candle power on Lightpanels and it drops off a lot >6'.

At NAB, I found that NILA's Boxer to have good throw power at these distances. (I had to squint when looking at the light standing about 10 away whereas I could look all day direclty at the Lightpanel units.) However one system that I was really impressed with was by Fotodiox (China via Illinois). They have a 3 watt LED that blinds you at 15'. And prices are very low. My concern is that, prejudiced or not, I have a problem spending a lot of money with a salesperson you can't understand. If they had a person who knew lighting and English, this system may be a great find.

Anyone have any experience with Fotodiox? No, that's not photo detox, but terrible name regardless.

Hey Jay, did you get a look at the Red Rock Micro electronic follow focus unit? Feature-wise it looks great. Interested to know the feelings of anyone who got near it on quality.

Now, if only it would talk to a Birger...

Hi, just had a look at their website, I only saw one small (and indeed cheap) LED 120 unit.

Do you have a link to the unit you saw ?

Oh weird, I was at the Arri booth and they told me the mmb1 could only take one 4x5.65 tray.

Now that's $1500 but doesnt include any flags. How much to add on a top flag and a 19mm swingaway bracket?

Don't know who you spoke to but that's crazy talk -- the MMB-1 most certainly takes two 4x5.65 trays and one rotates. The ARRI top flag is $137. ARRI makes a set of adjustable side flags that are $223. For a lower cost option, Abel makes a pair of nonadjustable side flags for $60. The mattebox is lightweight 15mm mount. We offer adaptors to go to 15mm studio or 19mm studio mount. There is no swingaway adaptor.

I wouldn't say "more" to offer, but instead a different set of options. They are both fine matteboxes, and we're happy to sell them both. We sell the Chrosziel and Vocas offerings as well.

Niles, I have not looked at the Fotodiox site. At NAB they had no less than a dozen fixtures on the floor and their catalog probably no less than 30 different fixtures plus accessories. But as I said, they might not be ready for prime time yet, at least in communicating in English on the floor. Catalog is very well put together and in English.

It's hard to know the build quality at this point because everything was prototype and not completely functional. It shows a ton of promise though - excited to see how it develops.

It definitely made it into our Best of NAB video... www.finnerknowsbest.com!

cheers

Ok thanks Tim, I'll keep a look on it. They are probably not for sale yet.

A Chrosziel MB840 - with: Two Filter Stages and Filter Trays, French Flag, Side Wings, Rubber Bellows, 19mm Bridgeplate Adapter -- can run you just shy of $5K.
