  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will there ever be a Scarlet?

How bout considering why scarlet is 2 months behind?

Is it really just because Jim decided to make Epic his baby, knowing that ARRI would be coming out with something that would... well rival the R1?
Is it because building the EPIC first made the rest easy?

All the parts are the same... basically (exceptions: redmote vs redmote pro, smaller lcds)
The main differences are the brains (sensors) and the scarlet fixed has lens attached... and maybe some other things that aren't modular.

As far as I can see, all the modules seem to be there more or less.

So a smaller brain with a smaller sensor is 2 months behind EPIC. If that is the case, you'd think we could see some footage by now. If we don't see some soon that suggests contrary, I think that expecting the general masses to be able to buy a scarlet no sooner than october/november would be a generous estimate.

However, if Jim lets EPIC development more or less rest on the team from now on... and turns towards scarlet... this summer could be fun! :)

If Jim sees scarlet as the hollywood b-cam only, and not at all an "event videographer's dream cam", then I would get used to waiting.

Then again... if its for a hollywood b-cam, wouldnt s35 be more usefuL?

You know Jim is probably reading our discussion and saying to himself, "what a bunch of hacks." :)

Haha :)

I'll repeat what I said, I think the Epic and Scarlet are two different markets mostly, not that Epic people won't use a Scarlet.

All the pictures I have seen have the Redmote, not the Redmote pro, on the Epic, which is what the Scarlet comes with.

The Scarlet comes with the same side handle, the same CF card reader, and they've even shown the 2.8" LCD on the EPIC.

So, that leaves really one thing....the Scarlet brain.

I think the only reason it is behind the Epic is because they probably need to tune the sensor just as they did the Epic.

I love the modular camera concept. Brilliant.

Hi Rick. The Scarlet Brain is the hardest part. That's sorta my point all along.

:)

On second thought, I think Mr. Jannard knows to stay clear of 11 page threads regarding Scarlet release dates. ;)

Have a good night Rick.

Hey Michael!

Well, I think the Epic brain is probably harder since it's pushing more data, that said, the Fixed brain has a whole different lens and electronics in it so who knows, maybe there is more problems with that.

But I can't imagine them not being curious of the scarlet as well to see what it is capable of!

And I'll try, it's Friday night and I am working late on a project :( distracting myself with REDUSER.net. It's good I don't have the camera yet! :)

I thought scarlet was 2 months behind because Epic was 2 months behind, all because of the ASIC delay of oh... about 2 months. Now I could be wrong but I took the 2 months behind as a... stop asking questions about scarlet when it's done we'll tell you... now how about you look at this EPIC over here. So how about some of you just relax a bit, go shoot something, spend time with your loved ones, or build your own camera.

I'm off to the bar have a good night... (my loved one's are a pitcher a urinal and a bar stool)

Jim spoke on how the EPIC is so incredibly compact full of parts and because it will have less demand than the Scarlet, that most of it is placed together by hand, also there is going to be a lot less of demand...thus the $28,000.

With the Scarlets, they know it will be highly on demand that they can put money into an assembly line to "push a button and churn a thousand Scarlets out" (metaphorically speaking). :)

The EPIC will be the camera he shoots with most of the time. He makes what he wants, and rightfully so. He chose his EPIC and he is proud of it. Join the fun and know that they are now getting assembly lines in the works as the retailers around the world are getting signed up to ship the Scarlets...

It sure seems like Red have done their homework. With assembly lines and a solid distribution channel, I think those worries of low supply and large backorders are much diminished.

I still think that a lot of people seem to be assuming that Jim is rolling his thumbs on this. Trust me, he isn't. He knows how bad we want scarlet - because he wants it just as bad. Distribution problems? Really? Do you really think they've been blindly ignoring the original problems that accompanied the RED One release / the M-X upgrade program?
Well, I don't know about you guys. I, for one, am gonna put my faith in that Landmine can handle this, and handle it well.

As for the question of Scarlet's release date...well, when they start showing of a rampaging ton of images - then you will know. Until then, relax and enjoy the fireworks! :yesnod:

sorry but there is plenty of info out there, this thread seems unnecessary.

And for all of those who ignored Sheriff Willingham's cease and desist order, shame on you.

Ya gotta love those people who think their opinions are better than the rest of the rabble, eh?
