Occasional ALE linking issue

Hi,

I have been rendering hundreds of MXF & AAFs with ALEs out of Rocketcine-X for the past week or so.

I have then been importing the ALE's into Avid Media Composer 4.0.5 and "Relinking" the MXF media. Similar to the "ONE STEPALE RE-LINK" process explained in this document:
http://www.avid.com/static/resources/documents/solutions/ROCKETCINE-X_FN_sec.pdf

Every now and again there will be a group of files that will not relink in this method (usually about 10-15 at a time in a sequential group). Indivually the MXF and ALE files appear fine. I have tried regenerating the MXF & AAF and I have tried a fresh ALE. I can find nothing to indicate why most work and the occasion group do not.

I can eventually import these (in a round about way), by importing the ALE, then the AAF (merging with know master clips (which doesn't actually merge it creates a duplicate)) and then importing the ALE again which merges with the AAF. So I end up with 2 clips in the bin with all the ALE data in link to the online clip, but original ALE one is offline, which I just delete.

Though we are delivering these to an external client and they are obviously frustrated at the fact the sometimes things just do not relink properly in their avid either.

Has anyone experienced this or have any idea what I could try to fix it?

Thanks,
Alex.

Hi Alex,

I stumbled on this one over the last couple of weeks.
It appears there are issues with a recent build RedCine-X and exported Avid ALEs.... I have had this confirmed by RED. I didn't have confirmation this also effected RocketCine-X. RED will send you a new 194 build that fixes the problem.

Also the new RedCine-X v2 also contains the fix but I haven't tested....
.... It just downloading now! :-)

Just tested trimming in RedCine-X v2 and Exporting an ALE. Clip relinked in Avid fine with all metadata intact. Specifically I can see correct Start TC and End TC and CORRECT Original Start TC and Original End TC.... This is obviously good news for an R3D conform which i'll test later.

Hi Jody! Thanks for the responses. It has helped me investigate. I am currently using RocketCine-X_Build1740. I was not using RedCine-X as it did not seem to read the RSX grade files (as least build 194) as well as it just seemed buggier.

Unfortunately I have not been doing any editing if the files. So it is not an in/out issue. I have checked the timecode in the ALE vs the timecode of the red footage. They match.

I think there might be "something" wrong with the R3D files themselves, as I have noticed that the "quicktime proxies" for all of the ones the do not reconnect do not work. When I open them in quicktime I don't get a video, all I get is a timeline. Though they do seem to open in RocketCine-X and the video in the MXF files that are rendered out also seems fine.

Not really sure what else to look for. I am doing complete checksums of the Data coming from the drives.
I will follow up with the people who are providing the data to me, but any other suggestions would be appreciated.
