* Beta REDCODE QuickTime codec, v4.1 for Mac OSX : http://red.cachefly.net/redcinex/REDCODE_QT_v41_b1.zip

WARNING: AS THESE ARE BETA BUILDS, THEY ARE RECOMMENDED FOR PREVIEW AND TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. THEY ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON COMMERCIAL PRODUCTIONS.

Installation instructions:

1) if needed extract the downloaded zip file by double clicking on it

2) copy the now extracted REDCODE.QT.component to the /Library/QuickTime folder to overwrite the old codec

It is possible the REDCODE QuickTime codec is in use by the system. In this case you will have to reboot the system before installation will succeed.

In case you need to go back to an older REDCODE QuickTime codec you can find these here : http://www.red.com/support

Change list:

New Features:
- Support for latest RED ONE camera firmware version
- Upgraded the codec to the latest color science version. Old footage WILL look different from any previous release. If you need to keep the old you can install the older codec which can be found here : http://www.red.com/support
- You can now change gamma space, color space, ISO, FLUT, Shadow, DRX, curves and lift / gamma / gain by (re)generating your QuickTime reference files with the latest REDCINE-X build (build 221 found here : http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=584146#post584146)

A new Final Cut Studio installer with an updated Log & Transfer plugin, this codec and the latest Apple Color REDCODE plugin will be released shortly on our support site.

so many things are happening in the same time, can't keep up, but I will.
Thanks,

I've installed the new Quicktime codec and attached 3 images

The first a grab from from the R3D the second a 1K render and the third the quicktime proxy. Clearly the Quicktime codec doesn't match the other two...yet.

Hi Noah, I'll look into that when I get back from NAB, however it looks like it might be a QuickTime gamma issue?

Is this QT X or 7 you're looking at?

Rob,

Peter Majtan and I will do the test on our side, too.

If you are going to Prores it should not be a problem. I have found that the problem lies with DVCPRO HD or Uncompressed QT.

Which codec are you rendering too. I know that with Prores 4444 you need to set the gamma and not leave it at automatic.

These are QT codec issues, just because you hand off a gamma to QT it does not mean that the specific codec will use that GAMMA. Trial and error until QT gets on this.

Quicktime 7 with final cut color compatibility on.

Is there any other solution if I don't wanna reboot my system? The system is using old REDCODE.

Noah,

I assume only redcine-x and rocketcine-x can generate the correct FLUT science.

Let's try render in redcine-x and rocketcine-x, also do Make QuickTime then compare them in QT 7 player.

Here's the comparison screenshot.

rocketcine-x and clipfinder loupe window look the same and QT7 and clipfinder project window look the same. The reference was generated from rocketcine-x. I suppose I did the right thing to compare but the reference look little darker. I'm wondering this is because of video range mapping instead of 1.8 and 2.2 gamma screw up.

A rendered quicktime looks the same as the R3D when rendered in REDCINE-X...the problem is when simply viewing proxys in quicktime or in Clipfinder (uses the quicktime coded when not in loupe)

I am guessing that clipfinder is not yet using the new redline which was released yesterday. Clipfinder 2.5 is not compatible with the ncs unless you use the send to rocketcine-x command.

David,

rocketcine-x versiono 2 and clipfinder loupe window look identical tho.

In my case the difference is small. Got so much better than before. Just little bit more tweak and look like it's going to be perfect. Please keep up the good work team!

latest versions!

latest versions!

Hey Rob I wish there was a place on RED.com where all beta and even alpha plugins and version of RCX etc could be posted so we wouldn't have to randomly find them on reduser. Just bury it one or two levels deeper and we could all go there but casual users would not.

I guess I am missing the point of the new codec?

I downloaded to test and I was hoping that the new color science would be implemented into the quicktime proxies. However the proxies in quicktime player and FCP look even more raw and desaturated than before. I really like the look of Red Gamma and Red Color in RedCineX and was hoping I could get the same look in FCP.

How does one view and edit proxies with the new color science?

Am I missing something?

Dan,

Look at my post above that shows the subtle differences in renders and proxy look like. Not, perfectly the same but they can get pretty close. You have to have everything right to do this. My metadata setting were REDgamma and REDcolor.

Dan ,

You would also have to have the new QT BETA codec installed if you want to see the New Color Science through QT.
