Yeah it will be interesting to see. They weren't able to complete the last wireless follow focus they announced. It's not exactly a company that has a known reputation of making advanced electronic hardware and software.

redrock pricing

they jacked all there gear prices up and this FF unit is now over 1000 dollar and will not be out till summer. I'm super pissed as i was waiting to see if i could order this and had two dslr rigs on stand by in my Red rock account just waiting until the nab announcement. Saw that its not out, went to finalize the order and noticed it was 35 percent higher then it was yesterday. I think im done with these guys.

I think the price went up because they added some more gear to the original package but I could be wrong. I know I would pay more for quality motors that were quiet. The ipod/iphone option was sweet. I don't know of any other setup that is remotely priced in this range for this amount of gear if you throw in the cinetape option. I only saw a brief demo today and plan to spend more time at the booth tomorrow. If I see anything different I will let you guys know.

Ahha so 1000 dollars doesnt get you wireless merely motorised followfocus with a wired remote.

Brian says a full system is in the "low thousands". So we can wait and see. However the price is still good at that, with the proviso of good build construction and quality of motors. The interface with the ipod touch or iphone is really smart, and allows a lot of future options.

The sonar system looks cool but I am skeptical about its applications. They say it will be for autofocus but it will only work with subjects directly in from of the rangefinder . If anything comes between the finder and the actor, it will be thrown off. What about multiple subjects in the frame? Seems like a good idea but there will never be a practical way of implementing autofocus with cine lenses. This device can be useful if you design your shots around it but it is way to limiting, just get a good focus puller. Say you are shooting an actor in shallow focus and you pan to another actor. Will the rangefinder try to focus on the background while you pan between the two actors? I would need to see this in actual action, but there is no doubt that it looks really cool.

Looks promising. Still can't get over how amateurish those blue plastic knobs look, though ;-)

They actually removed some stuff from bundles. For example the "stubling" bundle before had a lens gear included at price of $970 now they removed the gear and price went up to $1,102 and that is with ridiculous $50 rebate!:nono:

Brian Valente is a genius that gives us this RR remote control focus called the microRemote system for 1000 bucks.
