  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Apple attending NAB. Hardware/Software & FCS 4.

Interesting. The new Mac Book Pro should be there.

AWESOME!!!! I would really like to see new Mac Pro Towers... I'm in DIRE NEED!!!!! But y'all better believe I'll be there to find out!

This better be good. Avid and Adobe are pumping out some serious software. I'm sticking with FCP for the moment (been using it for a decade).

Hopefully they will announce the new Final Cut Studio with 64 bit! It is in a desperate need of a worthy update!

I think 64 bit Final Cut is certain - given that Logic and Aperture went 64 bit within the last few months... But that may just be a free upgrade since Final Cut Studio 3 just came out last July and it's a bit early to release a new version already.

I'm sure they've been working on a new version written with a Cocoa user interface for a long time now, so maybe they'll announce that new version but it won't be released for a few months?

But there should be new Macbooks and Mac Pros.

Wow - thanks Michael. While this isn't confirmation of anything it's nice to have a ray of hope. With the CS5 and Avid announcements of today and yesterday, anyone with serious $$s invested in FCP/Xsan ($300k+ for me) must be shitting hollowpoints.
The Australian Apple ProVid division has been completely shutdown and rolled into Corporate/Government. It's hard to feel comfortable when your point of contact changes every few months and all your Apple resellers are reporting strange and anti-competitive behaviour on Apple's part.
Time to get my glass-half-full on and stay awake for the 14th event :)

I think the overwhelming opinion was that FCS3 should have been a decimal point release (2.5) and wasn't worthy of being called a new version. Patchwork updates like enabling BluRay in Compressor instead of a proper DVD Studio Pro update rings alarm bells. Apple throws a lot into FCS effectively for free, which is awful nice of them - but at this point I'd rather pay twice as much for FCS and get some true development happening.

Bitch, bitch, moan, moan....get over it Dan. I'll find my happy place soon :-)

They better have something like CUDA or I'll think about switching 10 years after my last switch (from Avid).

there is no such thing as Final Cut Studio 3

there is no such thing as Final Cut Studio 3

There is a update that includes in the bundle Final Cut Pro 7
and Color 1.5 etc.

But I can't find any mention of 3. In fact internally/externally
it is refferred to as Final Cut Studio (2009).

Weird huh.

But please don't call it Final Cut Studio 3... cause no-where on
Apple's site do they call it that.

Check the most current PDF:

Now maybe some one with this version of FCP can look at the boot up window, or on the info thing, and see if there is a model no.# that says version 3, I am really curious!

***And yeah bunch of sites have called it that (even some resellers) but I don't think Apple has ever called it Version 3 in any of there literature.

I think there has been discussion in the past about this and Apple has left it as "we updated FCP to 7, Soundtrack to 3 etc., etc., etc." but no mention of the Suite being called 3 (or even 2.5 etc.). Only 2009, and usually 2009 in paranthesis.

Hey, hey, hey, I just upgraded to Final Cut Studio 3... UH, no you didn't; you just paid for a update, not a version "Upgrade". : -)

Yeah, it did feel a bit underbaked - there were a few nice new features but not many given there was two years between releases. I'm hoping that it was because they're rewriting large parts of it and it wasn't going to be done in time.

Good call. Checked my FCS box and sure enough there's no '3' on there. I guess since it came after FCS 2 everyone just assumed.

Looking through the comments on that Apple event post I found an Apple rumors blog I'm sure y'all know about - macsoda.com
Seems more credible and varied than the PressReleaseRegurgitators - appleinsider, tuaw, macrumors et al. Plus they seem to be getting the ocassional email direct from Steve Jobs :)

Latest post on macsoda :(:
"Mac Soda has been told by the company responsible for the event, Integrated Media Technologies, to immediately pull the story because it has no affiliation with Apple and there will not be any announcements by Apple. Maybe it’s just me, but if I didn’t want people to think it was an Apple event, I wouldn’t write “Please join Apple for an update on their latest hardware and software products.” on the invitation"

It is pretty widely acknowledged that Apple is very specifically and pointedly NOT calling it Final Cut Studio 3. That said, it is also pretty common practice to refer to the new FCS as "3" simply to provide a specific reference to it NOT being FCS2. Not technically correct, but often helpfully descriptive. Apple definitely left room for confusion on this one.

also isn't it 90% of the time we have a apple announcement, it's actually something we don't care about? fcs 3 i'm sorry, wasn't really much of an upgrade. the handful of features it gave are VERY useful don't get me wrong, but it was more of a giant update/patch rather than a "new final cut studio" it was only going from FCS to FCS 2.

and a million other times it's been, MCPRO, oh no, we have to get 17 inch now to get an express card slot!

another I-something that is really trendy!

or, yaye, new super powerful mac pro with barely any optimized software! we still haven't seen what the non i7 intel macs were truly capable of yet cause of lack of 64 bit support!

i could be wrong, but i think Adobe has the biggest stuff to unveil right now, and if it's just another iphone OS update, Apple is gonna feel the pain this NAB.

If apple were to unveil something at NAB, It would not be iphone/ipod/ianything related. When they did actually attend NAB, it was kept strictly to their Pro Applications and hardware... My hope is that they have finally come up with Phenomenon... Highly and Hugely unlikely. x400 thousand... but still i hope. Other than 64 bit and RED support there is not much coming out that is breathtaking from avid or adobe either, and FCP already has that... just the 64 bit we are waiting on... not that there is anything wrong with either program, they are great. But don't say something like "apple is gonna feel the pain" when they have sworn off NAB recently anyway.

Apple Pro apps are gonna fuc••• if they don't act soon! As for unveiling FCS3 at NAB, well then that that would mean my grandma had balls. We're not talking about just the FCP being updated but DVDSP too. I'm not gonna sit here and say what Adobe is providing and what FCS isn't.

But I did hear they're releasing FCP for the iphone for some quick edits.

Not to start a flame war here, but right now, FCP and CS5 don't offer the same for the .r3d workflow. Being able to betatest CS5 with a quadro 4800 was great. I am an adobe user, and used FCP for several projects. But right now, i will stick to CS5, premiere and ae with a dual quad, lots of ram and a quadro feels like a 100k computer. I'm sure apple won't fall behind, but the exclusiveness of quicktime is really a pain to deal with. Believe me, i know what adobe will roll out in CS5 and what the plans are for the future and it looks great. If you have access to a quadro card, download the trial and try it. Even if you stick to FCP, it is a great complement. When you edit native .r3d in realtime, with 3 way color correction, the ultra keyer and you never render anything it feels great.
