  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Native R3D in AVID

Combined with Native R3D, I'm surprised no one got excited by this as well:

"Keep high-end finishing projects in-house and gain great color precision with HD-RGB support (including dual-link I/O support with Nitris DX systems"

Yeah, pretty cool...

"Get Full-Quality HD-RGB Processing
Keep those finishing jobs in house, and deliver the highest quality color and effects work, with support for full-quality 4:4:4 HD-RGB color space processing in Media Composer. With the higher resolution detail, you can perform color correction, keying, and effects work with greater precision and ease. And if you have a Nitris DX-based system, you can digitize, process, monitor, and output (output in Symphony systems only) projects in HD-RGB, using the two HD SDI connections to handle the high-bandwidth resolutions.

Advance Color Correction
Save time and maintain the highest quality production with the fully integrated and flexible 10-bit color correction toolset. Quickly and accurately match colors from shot to shot using NaturalMatch. Gain better precision with 4:4:4 HD-RGB color handling. And get fine control over shots with animatable color correction, or dive into the large palette of easy-to-use tools to manually refine settings or get creative with the color."

Wouldn't it be great if we had an affordable dual-HD-SDI out 2K machine to master to? From acquisition to mastering the process would be incredibly affordable.

Right now there's really only HDSR. There's virtually no point in HDcam...you're throwing away so much, and not many broadcasters accept anything less than HDSR.

And if you have a Nitris DX-based system, you can digitize, process, monitor, and output (output in Symphony systems only) projects in HD-RGB, using the two HD SDI connections to handle the high-bandwidth resolutions.

Media Composer with the Nitris DX hardware will also output HD-RGB.

This is the best thing that has ever happened in my life.

MichaelP -- What's the ETA on delivery? And upgrade costs from AMC 4.x.x?

Hey don't forget to mention MXO2 Mini support for cheap monitoring.

That is great too, especially because I just got one on a whim to play around with, now I don't have to just use it in FCP.

Oh BTW, can you give us an idea about if there is gonna be any differentiation of features between Mac and PC versions?

Chris

No intentional feature difference between Mac and PC.

Michael

You mean green/green, right?
To get better real-time performance you will have to step down in picture quality - so from green/yellow [middle quality] to yellow [low quality].
Presumably in green mode [high quality] you will only be able to play simple cuts sequences without rendering?

But anyway - I am truly blown away by this announcement. It's like christmas coming early

I am currently wrestling with a tight budget for 2 new edit suites for Red footage, and was actually starting to think the unthinkable [FCP] so this could not come at a better time for me. R3D via AMA and MX02 mini compatability mean all the difference. Well done Avid - you really are listening to what your customers want :emote_happyhappy:
