  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Well Ive been searching in reduser.net for the past 10 days and I couldent find a proper answer for the problems Im facing in my work , and Im getting more panic now cause my deadline is soon
I have edited a whole music video using the h_m_p_f proxies ... and I worked with the _m proxy cause its the suitable one to my system and on FCP .. anyways I exported the XML file from FCP and Imported it in Clipfinder 2.2 and marked all my files on "Go" box .. I marked them then selected all the files then went on Edit> connect mov to R3d ...... then I really dont know what to do ...
I know Im supposed to export a Lua file from CF 2.2 "WHICH I DONT KNOW HOW TO DOIT !!!!" and I cant find anything related to Lua file extension

anyways I got this trial software "TP" which exports lua file ... then Import it from RCX I find the first 6 cuts only on timeline.. which is a good progress for me cause now I know what is lua file do when I go on RCX ... File > run script and I open lua file I find my edit ready to be graded ... Good
My main question here is
how can I get out a lua file from CF 2.2 ... can anyone tell me the steps please ... "please dont tell me go and buy the 2.5 cause I lost all my credit cards :)"

first of all it is not a good idea to edit on proxies, because they're instable references pointing to your R3D-file.

furthermore fcp isn't capable of writing redcode (no one except the camera is..) therefore you'll have to render (transcode) every effect. this might not sound like a big thing at first, but once you've got to edit multiple tracks / complicated effects the party begins.

so: trancode your material first to offline-prores.mov (strongly recommend CF's render engine, it uses all your processor cores unlike "log&transfer in fcp) ingest in fcp, enjoy the nice and steady workflow, then perform your conforming to DPX (which you'd have to produce first or parallel..) or back to R3D.

and i advise you to never rename any of the files created in the camera it'll bite your ass once you try to conform..

quick workflow using CF 2.2:

1.) do a bestlight (quick "grade") in CF <> Redalert (cmd+r) -
totally does the job.
2.) render offline-prores.mov in CF
3.) edit in FCP (depending on your mac it'll be a pleasure compared to editing proxies.)
4.) export an "fcp".xml
5.) import the "fcp".xml in CF
6.) "run conform on .xml file" in CF
7.) export "CF".xml
8.) import CF.xml in apple color (1.5) / or back into fcp
9.) let the grading begin.
10.) render shmender.

there's even a funky script out there that allows you to take your final fcp edit into adobe_ae and back if you're interested.

note: if your crew agrees on your (well performed) bestlight before you start the rest of the workflow - and you create 10Bit Prores (containing your bestlight metadata) in 1920x1080 you might skip the conforming because the color depth should suit every HD workflow out there. this requires further knowledge regarding color grading and transcoding... well... further knowledge is always a good thing.

best.

Thanx Sebastian for your reply
Well I dont like working on color, I would prefer working on Redcine-X which Im more familiar with and its much easier
I ll tell u a workflow that I m temporarily using and please correct me if Im wrong
1- Import my footage in RCX
2- Export a Low-Quality Compressed file holding the same file name "Offline"
3- Export another High Quality "Final" out put and colored and graded
3- Import the "Offline" mov 's in FCP and work on editing
4- Once editing is Done , I reconnect the Media ..Mov's to the high Quality "Uncompressed" mov's
then Export from FCP the Final out put

P.S.. these projects are all Music Videos .. which will broadcasted on TV

Shall I proceed on this work flow? or u recomend something else?????

Trial version is up to 10 clips.

Thanx Ryota but Im not able to buy ur Full version..cause I lost all my crdit cards and im waiting for the weekend to finish so I go to the bank and get a new one...... or else u wana send me the reg code ;))
