  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Arri DR Test...

Graeme,

I'll assume you're asking about the pro res files and not ArriRaw, according to last night, you can select any lut or white balance you like to the pro res output, while simultaneously recording the ArriRaw data for your online.

on this note...the epic is so tiny considering the power packed into it that I wouldn't expect to have something like prores encoding built in...but perhaps as a separate attachable sleek module would be sweet.

And also having control over the LUT's that'll get baked into the Pro-Res. We'd need to make sure that what we're seeing on the monitors is what we're truly getting.

The pro-res is a nice idea and would be a lot simpler to deal with than proxies. I hope Red considers this as an option as well.

This would be the best. If the camera could take the look settings from RedCineX (preferably wirelessly) and simul record RAW and baked ProRes 1080 I'd be thrilled. But yes, the monitor outputs from the camera need to be accurate for this to be effective.

Seems kind of silly to record to a format (ProRes) that 95% of the world's computers can't edit thanks to it being Apple proprietary....

Why don't you Apple supporters demand proper R3D online support instead, from Apple?

Or move to Adobe's upcoming CS5 for online, full res editing with no transcoding etc to deal with?

I don't think 95% of the worlds computers are used for editing...I'm just sayin.

Also NAB is just around the corner and there tend to be many bits of news coming out at NAB that involve the production industry...let's just see what's still coming.

There are more than 1.5 million FCP licensees out there. Largest user base of any NLE, if I am not mistaken.

Prores decoding is supported in quicktime for windows, though I have no experience trying to edit the format in Windows. It does playback alright, however.

There's a free Prores decoder for Windows. Unless you're referring to Linux?

EDIT: Beaten to it, it would seem.

That said, Apple aren't opening up direct R3D editing until they completely rewrite the core of FCP - it needs quicktime wrapper for pretty much all A/V media.

I think this is the 4th or 5th time you've said this :spam: Is Adobe paying you by the post?

Recording to ProRes from the camera is not a new idea... trick is to do it in combination with the high-res RAW so you have dailies AND a real cinema deliverable. :-)

Jim

Pulling off that trick would be amazing, adding the option for DNxHD would be phenomenal!! :ihih:

Looking forward to some incredible announcements in the coming days and weeks. :emote_happyhappy::drool5::emote_popcorn::cheers2::thumbup::sifone::yikes::coolgleamA::hurray::eek6:

Any progressive non-interframe codec in a quicktime wrapper that will play back realtime in FCP off of a FW800 drive would work. The 1080p mode in the Epic specs could be this answer, but then, your missing the RAW. Prores is a relatively new thing don't forget. (On second thought maybe I'm just getting old) The trick is to have a frame to frame match between the transcoded proxies and the raw file, as well as a few important metadata items, such as filename and timecode.

Offering DNxHD would be awesome.
