NIGHT SHOOTS with a non MX RED?

So were going to begin shooting my film next week and we have run into an issue. My Dp was planning on having his RED 1 camera outfited with the mx sensor by the time of shooting. However a backlog has prevented that from happening. So now we have a few locations which take place at night. And exposure is a concern.

Especifically a night time scene shot in a rooftop. There is cityscape in the distant horizon. My question is how badly does the RED ONE without the mx sensor perform in low light? will we get to see any of the distant city view?

by the way we are shooting with red one prime lenses.

If you shoot wide open, ISO600 and do some noise reduction in post you may be okay.

Do you have a chance to test before the shoot? Always the best solution.

Motion blur is only noticeable and a problem when you have motion in the shot, so one thing you might do with a rooftop cityscape scene is shoot you wides very static with the shutter at 360, limit the speed of the motion in the shot, and thus cover the cityscape background. If there is nothing moving in the shot you can even undercrank. Then go in tight an pick angles with bright backgrounds, or light the background, and crank the shutter back to 180 to shoot subjects with more motion. Obviously this may or may not work depending on how you like to cover a scene...

I have been shooting low light night scenes since Build 13. Just shoot in 4K and don't go over ISO500 and you should get decent images. The closer you can stay to ISO320, the better.

FYI, I just shot some asa1000 shots on a short because I felt i had no other choice. Looking at them in the edit... I thought they looked good. I think it's up to taste. test and see what you think. I'm no longer scared to go above 500 like i used to be.
