does anyone one how to do a simple vignette in FCP? I tried using the mask shapes with mask feather but it's not customizable enough, and the 8 point mask doesnt look right either.

Any suggestions or cheap plugin's I could use and get satisfactory results?

THANKS! :)

Sapphire make a good set of plugins for FCP, that include a vignette tool.

cheers
Colin

Magic Bullet looks also has vignette settings that you can customize and it's a lot cheaper.

in fcp studio 3 there is Vignette in the effects tab

Simple and effective (and free):

Move your video up to V2. Use the shape generator to make a circle and drop it in V1 - expand in/out to fit.

Set the circle softness way up or to suit. Then set the composite mode on your video layer to 'travel matte - luma'. Adjust size and softness of circle to suit.

If you can't make it in FCP, Photoshop is great, I did that a million times. Export a snapshot of your film from FCP, import it in PS, then add a layer, paint bucket it black and remove the desired area with a nice feather... Or simply spray paint the edges... Then re-import that layer in FCP and voilà! That's one trick anyway...
