Why are some threads closed?

Again, I am wondering why some threads are being closed. Moderators, I would at least wait until it turns into a brawl before closing or deleting threads. If users keep it civilized, we should be allowed to discuss anything in the off topic section. Nothing states that the off topic section is for film related posts only.

I do not know which threads you are referring to, but of late there has been one individual who has posted multiple times a non-approved modification to the LCD, all of which have been deleted.

I had a look into the Off topic section, and the last thread to be deleted there was 6 days ago multiple posts with sig spam.

And no, policy for off topic is not "anything goes". It should have some relevance to digital cinema or reduser, though we are way more lax in that section.

And finally, the forum rules state "The owners of REDUSER.net reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason."

Yeah run a blog if you don't like it. This is a RED camera official forum and any threads that get closed/deleted/celebrated are entirely their decisicion.

I was referring to a thread discussing the healthcare bill.

Yeah and that best belongs on a political discussion board. Of which there are literally millions out there. This site is about RED the company and its cameras. Anything else is really not the point of this board nor is 'free speech' a given here. Why is that a hard concept to grasp?

Its not, I just wish they would be clear about what can and can not be discussed. I feel that there should be a sub title under the Off Topic title that states: "Other film-related topics". There have been topics more random than the healthcare thread but the selection process in determining what gets closed seems like it is more the opinion of certain moderators and does not follow any guidelines of discussion. I understand when threads get out of hand but when it is closed down after only six comments, it is a little frustrating, the fact that users are commenting means that they are not opposed to topic diversity. If the moderators want the off topic section to only cover film related topics, they need to specify that. Just clarify and people won't complain. Another similar thread was started so I am not the only one that feels this way.

I closed it. Simple answer is it's a political discussion. They always turn into a brawl and REDUSER has adopted a policy, rather long-standing one, that political and religious discussions get shut down. Plenty of other forums to discuss those topics.
