Collectors Sale: Red 0008 and "London"

It seems with 6000 or 7000 cameras around it's not easy to get a collector value only less than three years old. Just sayin'

Lets analyze this:
An extremely early serial number camera, a pre-production city-named camera, both in near-new condition, used in a strong history of productions, and owned and meticulously maintained by a well-known industry professional (me) who had direct historical roots and definable contributions to the very earliest days of Red and the Red One camera. If you followed the links I put on my original post, read the material there, and still don't understand the collector's value of these cameras, well then there are a wide assortment of other threads on Red user you can post on. If you came to this thread just to post negative comments about my equipment sale, then please move on to some other thread. Just sayin'

The number 8 is considered very lucky to the Chinese. Sounds like a perfect buyer/seller storm... especially since China seems to be doing quite well monetarily. As for London, well, the British have impacted the entire globe at some point in history. Could have a universal appeal.

Thank you Elsie...I definitely like the way you think :)

It's just that I believe in the luck thing. I own a Remington 870 Wingmaster with the serial number v777777v. I once knocked down two dove with one shot.:hat: That was very lucky.

So Steve,

When is your Tatoo arriving? You wouldn't be selling if you didn't have a new camera to use, would you?

I hope they find a great home.

David

And I am Chinese :) Yes, 8 is about prosperity and money.

Yes, I remember back in early 2006 when I got the opportunity to buy Red 0008, that an associate of mine mentioned that the number 8 was considered a number of prosperity in China and other parts of Asia.

In retrospect, my early Red adoption, and getting Red 0008 has definitely been a prosperous move for me. Then I feel that acquiring London and my third Red were also very good moves.

My early adoption of Red was one of the very best decisions I've made in a long career in this business.

I´m sure with a 400.000.- sale he´s going to take a week off... or two.

;-))

All the best, and good luck!!

David,

I honestly have no confirmation on when any o the new Red cameras will be shipping. A pure guess on my part would be sometime in April, but we'll see. I also have a Bomb EVF coming sometime soon. I used a prototype Bomb EVF, loaned to me by Red, on March 5 in Seattle for the Heart concert production. The Bomb EVF is a seriously good piece of kit. Can't wait to use it with Epic X in a small configuration for the genres I work in - adventure travel, music, wildlife, action sports, nature, tourism, and documentaries of various kinds.

I'll sell London first, then sell 0008 after I get my first Epic X camera.

I have a feeling that 0008 and London will find a very good new home

Curious here

Is London different from the current "release" cams in any way (except for the upgraded parts like audio-board, PL-mount, i-pin)?

Good luck!

Thanks Jochen...

I'm not exactly sure what these cameras will sell for - nobody has ever sold in a public sale such an early serial number or a city-named pre-production camera. Any commodity is basically worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm not greedy - but I'm not a fool either. I'll most likely gather offers for a few weeks, analyze them, and then close a sale. Since I first started this thread late last night I've had a huge response via PM and emails, and several initial offers - a lot of interest. Based on that, I don't expect this to be a long period of time to close a sale.

If 0008 and London sell before I get my Tatoo, and I need a Red camera, I have lots of close friends and associates who own Reds, so I'll work a deal to use theirs.

As always Steve,

Thanks for the clear, honest, clear information. Best of luck with the sale and the Tatoo when it comes. We will all benefit from that testing.

Thanks Gunleik!

As far as London being different, that would be a technical question for Red to answer. Its my understanding that the 25 city-named pre-production cameras were made in early to mid-2007 to be the final field production testing cameras before the eventual 8/30/07 release of the first serial number cameras ( SN 0006 through 0024). In terms of field use, London has operated the same as 0008. Since I use my cameras for production, when the upgrades were offered by Red, I had each of my Red cameras upgraded.

Definitely Frank...if I close these sales by then, it would be my pleasure to be buying :)
