Hello All!

Does anyone know of a quick way to make Dailies from RED footage with Burnt-in Edge Code? I feel going from Red Rushes, to FCP, to DVDSP is a long workflow.

Thanks!
Ryan

Rocket Fuel does it in realtime directly from a FW800 disk from set...

Thank you for that info!

Do you know of a way to do it software wise? Without I/O Cards?

Cheers!

You (and everyone offering advice on this thread) do know about the Burn-In TC menu box in the RedRushes Output tab, right?

The absolute fastest way with the least amount of processing (and there fore some of the lowest quality results) is to load the quicktime proxies (I usually use the M ones) into compressor and create a preset that burns in the timecode. then render to whatever you need for your offlines.

I did R3D Proxies to QT-H.264 then to on to the web for secure web access for some of my clients.

I used a hardware H.264 encoder.

Very fast.

No need for CDs if there is good internet connections.

Which hardware H264 encoder?

I have used the same accelerator, with the method I described above (compressor w/burn in). Worked well. HOWEVER it will not keep the QT timecode track for the exported clips so you must use window burn only. I tried Elgato's export out of every app on the machine and none of them kept time code, but at least with compressor I could burn in relatively quickly, kindof a bummer.

RedRushes keeps the TOD TC, does burn-in and, at ProRes 422 (Proxy) quarter-res debayer, cranks out great-looking, letterboxed 720 x 480 dailies for DVD's, on an 8 core Mac, in almost real-time. Drop those into FCP 7, sync sound, add chapter markers, Edit>Share>DVD, burn DVD, done.
