  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dell U2410 IPS 24"

Cool. Please post the link and your impressions when you get a chance.

Are you planing to use it with any sort of box? Someone posted that he intends to use it with an Mxo2 Mini.

It's been out here for ages, but at $900 (about US$790)... Hopefully it gets a price drop to bring it more in line with US pricing because I've been thinking of buying one for a while now.

Any updates on image quality?

I called Dell to see if they could match that deal and they were ready to give me one for $470.- (I assume plus shipping).

I think its a Great monitor, I bought one of these about 2 months ago. I would compare it to Apple cinema displays, with the amount of connections given its a far superior monitor.

Dell U2410 @ 1.07 billion colors

Dell U2410 @ 1.07 billion colors

I noticed on the specs for the Dell U2410 that it supports 1.07 billion colors as opposed to normally expected 16.7 billion. Does this mean that it possibly supports 10 bit input via HDMI cable?

I had hopes of using this monitor connected to my MXO2 through the HDMI out and using as my viewing monitor for FCP.

Forgive my ignorance on this matter.

Would also love to find out if this supports 10 bit... Also dell just released a 27" the Dell U2711... I'm going to try and call Dell but I doubt I'll get someone who knows what they're talking about... If anyone else has any more info on the 24" or the 27" please share!

I bought the U2410....all and all a decent monitor. Did not make me do backflips. Has a sort of yellow hue to it even after several calibrations--but again, better than any $300 monitor i've seen. As for 10bit---i am unsure. Based on 1.07 billion colors--i'd assume it is, but can't say. Forget Dell tech support. They just read off a spec sheet that is online--useless to call them.

I also have the 2407 WFP and sits side by side with my U2410 and they are fairly close to or equal monitors. Way more inputs on the 2410.

Yes, would be nice to know if someone can confirm 10bit on U2410.

I bought the MXO2mini and the DELL u2410 to get starting with grading a bit more seriously. Everything works fine connectionwise together with FCP3 and Apple Color. 10bit (I think)
Only problem is calibrating, I'm no expert at all and I know this is a really cheap system but there are so many settings in the monitor itself that I don't know what to do really.
Every time I set the monitor to a new setting and calibrate using the MATROX I get totally different look.
Anyone using this monitor succesfully with COLOR who can give me their monitorsettings?

I have asked to get my username changed to my real name. Just so you know.

Thank you! That was really interesting to read.
We have calibrated using the YUV setting as input mode in the monitor menu and output from the MXO2.
We have the sRGB mode enabled.
Is this Ok?
It looks good but I fear i'ts a horrible mistake maybe?
On the other hand, all of the outputsetttings in final cut and COLOR for the MXO2 are YUV.

For true calibration you need to use a colorimeter. Something like this:

http://spyder.datacolor.com/product-mc-s3pro.php

There are several brands and types of low priced colorimeters like this. The only way to get a truly CIE accurate white point and grayscale. If you are finishing HD you want to calibrate to YUV and REC709 color space if it is an option.

I think orre has a colourimeter, the problem with the U2410 is that each one comes with a 'factory enchanced' colour profile that can make calibrating a bit of a nightmare. The link above goes into a lot of detail about how best to tackle this issue.

I don't have a colorimeter acctually but will be sure to pick one up!
The spyder though seem to need a 12 bit videocard but since I'm getting my signal from the MXO2 I can only get 10 bit. Or have I got this wrong?
Maybe I was a bit naive when matrox said you could calibrate using thier software without the use of any hardware.
We only deliver SD for TV and occasionally HD for the web.
The monitor as far as I know has no rec.709 setting but at the time being we don't need it.
