Hi,

I am new to this forum.
I am considering to buy Red Camera, but before I do this I have to be sure that I can create 360-degree video with Red Camera and mirror lens.
Could you please send me links to existing solutions and examples of creating 360video with Red Camera?

Kind regards,
Charles

I also have some 360º shooting solutions I've developed, be aware there are no "off the shelf" products that will provide a high quality 360º image.

Parabolic mirror for Red Camera

Parabolic mirror for Red Camera

Thanks for your replies.
I am looking for a solution that I can purchase.
I need to generate video panoramas for a 360-degree screen (not dome):
http://www.360cities.net/image/immesive-digital-arena
in resolution close to 9600x1080.

Ladybug2 allows creating 3500x1750 spherical video panoramas.
Ladybug3 - 5400x2700.

Can I achieve more pixels with Red Camera and parabolic lens?
Where can I purchase such lens for creating panoramic (not spherical) movies?

Regards,
Charles

Assuming you need to shoot the 360deg pano all at once.. you might be able to survive setting up multiple Red Ones in a wagon wheel configuration on a custom plate. Each one covering 60-120 deg with some overlap*.

*I am saying this very loosely and hope that you would do the tests and calculations to choose the proper lenses and overlap for stitching.

Something like this is done for background driving plates. We just typically don't need all 360deg at once, so we shoot 3-5 cameras pointed at only 180deg. or so. Then they are stitched in post.

Too bad little Scarlet isn't around yet.. that would be an ideal camera for something like this!

Scarlet + One Shot lens

Scarlet + One Shot lens

Hi,

Do you know when Scarlet FF35 will be available?

What do you think about using mirror lens (http://panoramic-imaging.com/product_categories/Single_Shot_360_Degree_Lenses.htm) and Scarlet FF35 to create video panoramas?

EyeSee360 (http://eyesee360.com/) wrote to me that they are building a new mirror lens for Scarlet and Epic. Is that true?

Please let me know more about possible solutions of creating video panoramas for multi-projection systems.

Regards,
Charles

I would just hire Evin.
Why re-invent the wheel?

I actually just shot with a one of a kind 360 lens a few weekends ago for a music video. It basically takes two 8mm fisheye lenses and sticks them back to back to get something like a 357 degree view. From there you take slices out of the image and stitch them to create a 360 image that is similar to the old Apple QuicktimeVR, but is full motion.

The downsides to this is that you are not using the entire RED sensor (so I believe the image res comes out between SD and 720p) and the lens has no iris and no focus. You'll also notice in the image below that I actually had to take off the PL mount ring on my RED as the locking ring wouldn't let it sit flush on the mount. Talk about gaffing the crap out of the lens to the camera!

Hi,

Do you know when new Scarlet camera will be available on the market?
I think this would be perfect solution for video panoramas, am I right?
Charles

I own one of these.

Haven't yet tried it with my Red One and Canon still lenses or cine lenses but I can tell you that my theory is that you need a lot of light for smallest possible aperture and longer depth-of-field yet be able to focus very close to the lens. These guys (Go Pano) also have a product for creating the Virtual 360 videos. I'm sure Evin's rig pictured above is WAY better than my little toy but you could still probably use VideoWarp Creator with footage created by Evin's rig.
