  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

M-X Reel

It is hard to get good music without paying a huge royalty. Please send us some of your "free stuff" so we can consider using in a future reel. We are music starved.

Jim
You may live to regret saying that, Jim.
Now you're gonna be buried in Demo CDs and MP3 files :emote_head_explode:
(Whatever you do, DON'T let anybody get the idea that you might be interested in making a film and that you're looking around for a script... :frown2:)

What sort of music did you want?
I know a guy who runs a recording studio.
Most of his work is rock/hip hop/rap hopefuls but he also does string ensembles and Jazz combos. I'd suggest you explore that possibility. You may find some of them would be prepared to work just for a bit of exposure. Some of those under-20 classical music students are unbelievably good.

Classical and early Jazz might not be everybody's cup of tea but they're particularly good because the copyright usually expired long ago.

It's not generally known that if you hang a microphone down the back of an orchestra pit while they're playing an out of copyright piece, you 100% own the copyright on that particular recording. The same actually applies to rock concerts, except that copyright most likely still applies to the somgs themselves.

No sweat.

I'm probably gonna get crucified for saying this, but I'm also not that impressed. At least not much more than I already was with R1. That being said, I would have to see it projected. Web videos are a HORRIBLE test of quality for something like this. I have also only had the pleasure of working with the R1 once, so maybe that's it. Maybe I was expecting something way too crazy... Maybe I'm still in love with 35mm... maybe it's just the content (to each his own). Keep it up though. I love what you guys are doing!

Any possibility that the M-X Reel we saw at RED Day Hollywood will be posted here? It had more footage and was all-around a vast improvement in presentation power.

Slightly off-topic here, but how do you get such a large file as the M-X Reel streaming in real-time with no buffering to my computer? Doesn't happen anywhere else for me, and I would be very interested in find out...

Not sure I understand the question. I downloaded the file and just play it on my computer. The bandwidth to my house isn't fast enough to play something this large at the same time as downloading. Or, are you having trouble playing it on your computer after downloading?

I'm not sure RED should let anyone see it in any format other than the new Sony 4K projector on that big screen at RED Studios Hollywood...its pretty f'n amazing.

For real, David. While I totally dug the longboarders footage, the London aerials were OUTSTANDING. Having seen the reel on RED Day prior to seeing this download, I can attest it is night and day.

4K or go away. ;)

No problems playing it, I was just wondering how RED manage to deliver the file to my computer with no buffering time at all. It just plays instantly just like any file on my hard disk would play in Media Player.

Oh! Yeah, their servers have AMAZING bandwidth. So much so that I was downloading the file at work and the IT guys shut off my network connection to the computer. Apparently, I was using the WHOLE pipe since Red has such high bandwidth!

:)

Jim,

As promised, I sent you an e-mail through the Red.com contact app with a link to a custom made score for the MX reel that is really amazing, sounds worthy of those images. Have a go at it and let me know what you think.

Amazing footage but some moire and aliasing that people seem to overlook... reminds me of Reverie :-)

No, actually, if you read through all the replies you would see just the opposite. The moire/aliasing was from the down sample in post, the original full scale footage is free of those artifacts. Stills from those frames at full rez were posted here as well (quite a bit back).

Just as well most people will be displaying in 4k then.
Now who was the Scarlett for?
