Just purchased a red one camera and looking for a lcd monitor to mount on top of it. The monitor needs to have hdmi output which has been hard to find at good prices. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Marshall. Nuff said.

Ikan has one as well I believe and they are pretty cheap compared to Marshall, but I have heard about some durability issues. Get if you need a cheap one.

I have heard good things about Smallhd as well.

Thanks guys. I've contacted dealers about the Marshall and smallhd.com but they said it doesn't have an hdmi output.

Assuming you have a good reason for not using a Red monitor? We use a 5.6" Red LCD and a 24" BenQ for focus (that's NOT mounted to the camera, but is placed very close by).

Just want to let you know about ikan's monitors that will work well with Red. Currently we have two, the VX9 and the VX7. Here are some stats for both, and if you have any questions, please contact me directly at 713-272-8822 or at my email at clint@ikancorp.com.

The 8.9 inch VX9 and the 7 inch VX7 LCD monitor answer the production professional’s need for an affordable, effective monitoring solution utilizing the industry-standard HD-SDI input, as well as HDMI, composite and component. The VX9 boasts a panel resolution of 1024 x 600 and features LED backlighting, underscan, overscan, Blue Gun and the continued power option variety you’ve come to expect from ikan monitors. In addition, the monitor sports a newer, sleeker housing design with improved ventilation and more buttons, putting all necessary features just one click away.

Id consider using an HDMI to DVi lead to a DVi input on the monitor, it may open up some other options. We use TV logic 7 inch monitors which are excellent but not so cheap.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the ikan monitors don't display menus and other info...they're only useful as a secondary monitor for focusing.

I've heard that the DP1 (by smallHD) is better than ikan because it displays menus and info just like RED LCDs. But 2 issues:
It doesn't display dark areas well, according to this review, although the reviewer was not using it on a RED camera, so I don't know how much that affects things. (http://www.pauljoy.com/gear/camera-accessories/choosing-an-hdmi-monitor/)
Second, its buttons are on the BACK, which is probably frustrating in the beginning and takes a good deal of getting used to.

small HD just released DP1x, which might have fixed the darkness issue...anybody had experience with it? Or any other 3rd party on-board monitor?
