1. Don't mess with in camera FLUT™. You don't need to. And you are likely to forget that you made a change. It is primarily there for sending back a viewing LUT from REDCINE-X. Please. It isn't necessary.

2. If you are using a RED LCD... make sure you get the brightness correct. Click it up to brightest, then click back down 4 clicks.

BTW... in the next build we will move FLUT to a "Pro menu"... again... don't do that!

More tips will be added.

Thanks for the Tips

Thanks a lot for the tips. Another huge step.

When I click the brightness down on my LCD I get that high-pitch squeal. Was there ever a fix for this that I might have missed along the way?

Thank you.

Not sure if it's on all RED LCDs, but my 5.6" has this issue too. Now granted, on a relatively active set, you might not hear it. But when it's quiet, you can. I have pretty good hearing still, so I pick up on it. Not sure everyone does. As you get older those high frequencies start to go away. At full brightness, the high pitched sound goes away. Back off the brightness and it appears again.

Hasn't really been an issue for me on most sets. Anyway, that's what Kip is referring to.

Yes, exactly. It has never really been much of an issue because I have thus far kept the LCD at full brightness. However now that Jim is recommending we "click back down 4 clicks" I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this noise?

mine squeals too, if not at full brightness.

Perhaps put an ND filter on the LCD for the time being.

The squeal is likely do the pulse-width circuit used to modulate the LCD backlight.

Often times you can hear this high-pitched whine on home lighting dimmers as well. If you have good hearing.

On my lcd the four clicks down is approx. one stop difference. Reading the lcd screen with a light meter before and after.

JIm forgive me if this has been brought up before but why not just add in the menu a brightness meter with an indicator hash mark for the standard "4 clicks down" sweet spot.

Many people out there have no idea what setting is the standard and either did I until recently so I think it would be very useful.

I also have a squealing LCD if not at full brightness. Really annoying for my ears and bad for the sound guy.
