Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else was having issues with their rear lens caps on the RED Primes being really loose when tightened down on the lens. Some caps are better than others, but most won't tighten down enough to stay on. Basically, I can twist the cap to where it should be tight and the whole cap will rattle like it's just be set down on the back of the lens.

Anyone else having this issue, or did I get a bad set of caps?

Matthew

Yeah, I have the same issue. I now store the lenses cap down and pull them out from just under the focus gear. I think the stress of yanking them out from the PL was just too much. I wonder if one could buy another set of caps from Red?

That's what I have on another lens and have tried it on the primes with much better success. It just sucks to spend $19,000 and get sucky lens caps.

I stored them face down when I first got them, but because the front cap is so soft, I rather have the hard cap supporting the lens weight. Plus, I have written the lens mm on the front cap so I am sure I am pulling out the correct lens (although, I know exactly the order they are supposed to be, but if someone puts a lens in, then tend to put them out of order...sigh...)

I thought you were supposed to store lenses with the front element down whenever practical.

Is that not the case?

I agree! It's kinda hard to believe that the guys at RED are camera geeks themselves and accepting this. I'm also thinking about replacing the front with something else... I think Duclos makes some... ?

I totally agree........these rear PL caps are Sugar Honey Ice Tea......!!!
i bought some back when i got my cam in 07, then got some with my RPP set at end of 09....nothings changed...they don't fit the PL mount correctly.
really frustrating......
