I imported a color balanced and retouched 2k quicktime file into premiere under the red r3d setting because it was the only one I found that had the correct dimensions. I'm not able to render or export. Is there any other sequence preset I could use that's as large as the Red setting?

I can't work with the original r3d media anymore because the retouching was done on a large quicktime file already.

If I start a new project with a smaller preset (i.e. HDV 1080p24) It works fine, but it's downsizing my file.

This is my first time working in Premiere so I'm sorry if it's an obvious thing. . .Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Chris.
This is the only way that I've had any sucess doing this.
On the “New project” screen, choose HDV and name it and click OK.
Then, choose the HDV drop down and select 1080p24, then select the general tab up top.
Then from the Editing Mode drop down choose Desktop, then choose your framerate from the Timebase drop down, then under video, punch in the Frame Size you want.
Then choose all of the rest of the parameters that you see fit.
Save the preset too.
This has worked for me in the past for other things.
Good luck.

That worked! Thanks so much!! I got it in and am able to render it.

The only problem is that now the preview video is skippy. I have a 2x3 ghz quad core intel with 32 gb of ram and 2tb of scratch. So I can't figure out why it won't play back well. It will play a second and then get stuck.

I tried saving my after effects project as a premiere project and opening it that way. no change. I even tried opening up a smaller proxy quicktime that I had from AE and it plays skippy too. . . Any ideas??

I just spent the last few days trying to learn premiere, and I really like a lot of things about it, but I'm about to have to go to another program if I can't get this figured out.

Hey Chris.

Glad it worked out at least to some degree.

Your computer is definitely not an issue. Nice system.

It could be any number of reasons why it's playing choppy and such.
Some common things to look for are making sure you have all of the Adobe updates installed, make sure that the preview window is set to Highest Quality (right-click in the window and choose Quality, and then Highest Quality) and using the "interpret footage" options (in the project panel, right-click the footage and choose "Interpret Footage"). Make sure the frame rate matches what the Quicktime footage itself is. I've been tripped up by these goofy things before. An easy way to check that is to open the video in Quicktime and up on the Menu bar, click Window and choose Show Movie Inspector. This will show all kinds of info about the file including the frame rate, format, data rate, all kinds of stuff.

Cheers.

Thanks - we copied our source file over to a faster 4 hard drive raid and now it's working fine. I suppose the hard drive we were using wasn't fast enough. It's hard to believe it was that simple.

Thanks again.

Glad it's sovled.

Didn't think about the raid being an issue but I guess at that resolution and if the file is big enough it would do that.
