  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Exploding Girl shot on R1 iTunes movie trailer

"Brad & So's films are nothing like most of the work deemed 'mumblecore' as they are totally free of the 'cool' posturing, hipster douchebagery and lack of craft. They are more akin to the work of Hou Hsiao-Hsien. Their films work because you care about the characters, rather than wanting to brutally murder them!

There's nothing wrong with lack of 'plot'. Rigour and detail matter more imho. Most mumblecore stuff has no rigour at all, just rigour mortis!"

If those are in fact the facets required to become a part of such a movement, haha, then i concede, SoandBrad do nothing that I've seen with anything you described, ha!

There films are very delicate, and I agree that regardless of what one thinks of them from a subjective point-of-view, you can't deny they know exactly what they're doing.

And yes, mumblecore was, is and always will be a joke!

Oh, and thanks!!!

PS: I really wasn't trying to offend anyone with my comment, sorry if I did, but the fact is most no-budget NYC 'character studies' are utter garbage, it was refreshing to see one that (under Brad's helming) rise about that and still retain he elegant simplicity of what they tend to embody. It wasn't a knock against the filmmakers, more of a 'thank god someone who knows what they are doing is going after content like this.' :D

Just got back from the 7pm screening. Fantastic film! Anyone that lives near New York City should run to the theater to catch this while it's playing.

The film itself is wonderful. Deep, nuanced performances by both leads, especially Zoe Kazan. She is definitely a talent to keep an eye on. The story unfolded naturally, and the pace never dragged. Very, very well done.

The footage looks gorgeous. Crystal clear, sharp, rich, & moody. Not video-ish at all. It's the kind of movie that does the RED ONE justice.

If you're into digital cinema, you owe it to yourself to go see this. Congratulations on the premiere!

Anyone know if the current release is a 35mm film-out? I saw this at Tribeca on 2K digital projection and it looked very good, but I'd be curious see a transfer from the full 4K version.

Jason,

I just want to say congratulations to MBS Productions. The trailer looks really beautiful and I'm extremely proud of you guys. As soon as I'm back in the city I want to check it out.

We're very proud of this film. We Exec Produced and handled all pre-pro to finish on our RED #1203, shot it all available light mostly on a 300mm Optimo back in August of 2008 in NYC.

It came out beautifully and Eric Lin the DP nailed it.

Jason

Yes, very beautiful!

... I guess the "no lights shooting style" will be EPIC land and i hope we will see many indie movies, where talented people grab the cam and tell a damn good story.

love it! ... watched it already 5 times ... lol

congrats to the 'The Exploding Girl' cast and crew. i'm very excited about this film. I really like the duplass brothers films and ive seen what i can of the so called mumble core films.

Any DVD release info yet?

Keep up the good work guys.

the "film" has only been in a digital pipeline and is currently showing at the Landmark in Digital Projection. at Tribeca last year it was showing off HDCam.
We've yet to do a full 4K version but will def be preparing one and I may show some 4K stuff at NAB as well.
