  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

17-50mm RED Pro Zoom...

18mm RPP is already in the store but as 'coming soon'. Does that mean next week as well? Or later in Feb?
 
Have your testing worked out if the new 17-50mm Pro will cover the Epic 5k sensor?

im ok then :) again my salute to u Jim for making this camera and changing the face of film making otherwise Sony panasonic would have ripped us apart with high prices or destroyed the Filmmaking by killing film makers. Im in debt to u man.

We shot 150 rolls worth of footage for over 8 days in Pakistan. and it came out as good as Kodak stock. love my Red :)
 
Any ideas on when this lens will actually hit the streets?

Got an email that said ... "Thank you for your order. At this current time the 18mm prime is in the early stages of release. It is estimated at this time that orders will be allocated towards the end of this month."
 
Hey Jannard any chance we could get some pics of this lens on a body and possibly in hand for size comparison... and of course just to see how sexy it is? You said pics soon and the only one posted was the key light photo.

my 18-50 is very sharp and pretty good mechanically. I love it for steadicam as well. I am keeping it and buying the new 17-50
 
18mm is shipping in small numbers.. will ramp up quickly.

17-50mm outside ring diameter is 144mm. threads on the inside of that ring at 139mm with 1.0 pitch. Overall length is 129mm. 3.2 Pounds.
 
Nice! 3.2lbs and it goes to 17mm! With the ability to zoom all the way to 50mm in a heart beat... that is a work-horse!

An amazing bargain considering it will look practically identical to the RPPs now that you guys got your optical department built up so strong!

And T2.9 is super fast for the new sensor!

I can't wait to see how it looks. Keep on it and hope it turns out just how you want it to.

I don't get why people aren't flipping out about it!
 
Hurray I love lenses that are wider then that are long... I have to have this lens not only for the sake that I am sure it is going to be sharp and crispy... but it just looks soooooo damn sexy...

RED Pro zoom 17-50mm T2.9 after some of the future relevant tests could be my first RED lens.

Thanks for the info Jarred, this lens sounds wonderful, I'm looking forward to seeing how it sees ;-)

However, please, is it not possible, to have standard common sizes for the outer diameter (if I'm not mistaken an MB20 can take lenses up to 142), and 138mm filters are the common standard used everywhere...

Please, please, please...
