I just saw a picture of the Epic bottom and there was only 1 3/8" hole.
(there is also a 1/4" hole, but not useful pro cinema use)
This will be big problem as any tripod or steadicam plate will often get loose.
Every modern 35mm and high end digital camera including the Red One has two 3/8" threaded holes.
Red please find a way to put 2 3/8" holes on the bottom of the Epic, hopefully with a standard 50mm spacing.
Otherwise constantly tightening a bottom plate will cost production more time than waiting for a Red one reboot.

Nooooo.
It cannot be true.
Red Team, please do not make it difficult to integrate your flagship product into the professional cinematography support equipment market.
I get it, it's a DSMC. We can make it guerilla, like a chunky DSLR. I get it.
Don't forget to make it work with pro cinema.
Cheers,
Harry

Might have been from this photo.

I know that SEEMS like a good idea within the vacuum of Red...
:(

I's even be ok with the 1/4 20 if it wasn't right on top of the 3/8 16. if you can use both, then that at least keeps it from twisting.

The Arri bridgeplates have a spring-loaded button that I bet fits in a 1/4"-20 hole. It's pretty close to the forward 3/8"-16 hole. Wonder if that's what they are thinking...
Cheers,
Harry

So much for my base plate.

Remember that this camera is shorter than the R1 so it will need an interim plate to fit to something like the ET Hybrid bridgeplate. And that plate could be easily designed to mount to this camera in a way that it would never move and have multiple mount holes in the base. So that's what you can then use on your Steadicam or other rig.

As we discussed, I knew that the Epic would require a intermediate plate, if only for height.

That aside, I still do not believe that this will be the final production model's bottom screw configuration.

The new Epic/Scarlet baseplate is designed so the brain slides in sideways:

... And then ... Like the ET Hybrid base plate system, different size rod systems could be utilized.

Wow, if that thing fit on an industry standard dovetail, it would be useful.

Nick

yeah but how do you attach rods?
would like to be able to use arri gear without a workaround bridgeplate...another plate is just a hassle...but this is all theory, maybe the red system is cool, dont know

If you look at the pictures of the ET universal (15/19mm base plate) and you look at the Red adapter, they both have the locating pins, and threaded holes to accept the ET rod brackets. It would be almost brilliant if it fit on a industry standard dovetail.
