I browsed through Macworld.com's article on Aperture 3 yesterday and was very pleased to read of the non-destructive brushes. I went onto Apple's site a few minutes ago and browsed through the list of 200+ New Features, and I was very pleasantly surprised to read of its video and audio support (minimally mentioned in the Macwold article such that I missed it, the video support, initially). And, revisiting the Macworld article, the final paragraph notes 64-bit support for large scanned images which caught my attention because Aperture has in the past been marketed as a "RAW solution". Altogether, this is moving Aperture toward broad asset management, which I think is a positive development. Maybe Aperture and Final Cut Server will become positioned to formally compliment each other.

I just hope this one isn't as slow as Aperture 2.

Lightroom 2 for me blows the pants off Aperture 2 in terms of speed. I can get more done faster in lightroom 2 without the spinning rainbow wheel ever showing up.

Even on Mac Pro 8 cores I've had Aperture chug with only 3000 files in the library. Thats pretty lame.
I do like the UI of Aperture better though.

I've read a lot about it being faster in 64 bit, but I'm on regular leopard, not really thinking about snow leopard, so im 32 bit. Any idea if this program is going to be faster?

I downloaded the trial and using leopard it seem a lot faster than 2.0. Will buy it in a few weeks.

Just hoping that all their RAW experience will go over to FCP when working with RED material. Please Apple, take parts from Aperture over to a new FCP. With great RAW editing from the ground up...

Aperture 3 is 64 bit native app... you will only be able to run it with Snow Leopard, and you should see a dramatic speed improvement.

If that is the case, how come Christian Berg a few posts above is claiming it works fine in Leopard?

EDIT: Mac OS X v10.5.8 or v10.6.2 or later (straight from the apple website.)

The new 64-bit features in Snow Leopard are 1) Most bundled apps are 64-bit and 2) There's a 64-bit kernel (but the 32-bit kernel boots by default except on Xserves).

Just running 64-bit Cocoa apps has been fully supported since Leopard, no need for Snow Leopard.
