Hello,

I'm a student at the Savannah College of Art and Design and one of my friends is shooting one of his projects on a Red camera and is wanting me to edit. Problem, never have edited on Red and can't find a clear and defined 'how-to' import.

I have an iMac v10.6.2 and use my own copy of Media Composer. I downloaded the codec to allow you to play Red Quicktime files for my computer.

Now, my question is in a few parts actually:

1. What does the Red export? Does it export as Quicktime and since I have the codec on my computer I can then use that to upload the footage into Avid as Quicktimes.

2. If it doesn't export as Quicktime, how can I import Red files into my computer and what would I need to do to convert them into Avid files?

Thanks, so far my professors haven't been much in the way of help. We recently only got 3 Reds and they're still playing around with them and I don't think we have hookups for our Adrenaline, Nitros or Symphony stations yet. But plenty of rental houses around the area have them and I haven't been able to find out if export equipment comes with the package.

Thanks for your time.

Have you read the documents on www.avid.com/red? I did a full Avid+RED presentation last spring at SCAD for students and faculty. Perhaps we need to do a refresher again.
