Hey Guys,

Just wanted to know a few good filters to soften up the RED ONE's image.

I have tried a BPM1 and a DF1. Both look okay but make the picture look like I had a bad focus puller.

I found the DF1 adds a very slight grey haze.

any suggestions?

Thanks :)

Professional cine filters come in lighter strengths than what you tried -- for example, a #1 Black ProMist is considered pretty heavy in filmmaking, usually you'd use a #1/8 to #1/2 (for example, the scenes on the Enterprise in the new "Star Trek" film were shot with a #1/8 BPM.)

#1 Diffusion is a fairly old filter design, sort of foggy & mushy, most people would use a Tiffen Soft-FX or Black Diffusion-FX (#1/2 is the lightest in both cases), or a Schneider Classic Soft for diffusion (those start at a #1/8). If you are shooting on a 2/3" camera, then perhaps the HD Classic Soft.

You can see some examples under "Camera Filters" here:
