I'm trying to get my Red Ana shot project into color for grading..

It was shot on the Red Ana mode in a mix of 4k, 3k and 2k. The editing was done with Prores LT 1408x576 generated clips that was stretched 2x in redrushes. The aspect ratio was corrected when editing in FCP but I'm having a hard time conforming the project from an FCP generated XML in clipfinder and send it to Color for grading.

Should I choose _m, _f proxies in Clipfinder?
Should I change sequence height and with?

After importing the new XML into FCP it never shows me the right unsqeezed picture, and when sending to Color everything is wrong.
I've tried a number of different combinations but can't get Color to show the correct aspect ratio, it's either zoomed out, in or squeezed. Do I have to change project resolution there?

Have searched around the web for an answer but can't find a good workflow for ANA projects.

Best,

Adrian

Adrian,

What if you send the H proxy and then do a custom geometry and custom frame size in Color? I dont think there is a preset for ana frame sizes so you might have to create one.

Thanks for the reply,

Hmm, even if I change the Project Settings and create a custom frame size in Color that is 2.40:1 in pixel ratio, when I go into the geometry room I can't stretch it out, only scale my squeezed clip so it fits the new frame size. Can't really find a good way to desqueeze it.

Maybe i'm doing something wrong in FCP sequence settings or even clipfinder to begin with? Even in FCP I can't get my new _H proxie timeline to properly unsqueeze, it only appears as a 4:3 squeezed image. There is no good option like the fit 2x in Redrushes.

I'm finishing for a 2K delivery.

it doesn't matter what your FCP settings are before you send to Color. Nor does it matter if you use H, M or P proxies in Clipfinder conform.

In Color:

Setup tab, Prjct Settings tab:
**Resolution Preset: *2048 x 837
**Render File Type:*whatever you want
if it asks, let it adjust clip size, but it will only be half right.
Go to Geometry tab
Scale should be 1.375
Aspect set to .5
Copy to All

If you want to keep your final output 16:9 you can use 2048x1152 and Color will letterbox it with the same settings above.

Thanks for posting this. It's a big help. I've bookmarked it.
