Hi All, I am debating over getting the Scarlet when it comes out but have also reviewed the Canon XH-A1s. Could someone tell me why it is so superior. Also I have a imac 24" dual core and FCP but am afraid My system wont be powerful/fast enough to fully take advantage of the 3K Resolution in Editing or output. Will it??? and If I have to downconvert to 2K am I missing out on the whole reason to buy this camera. Any detailed Info would be appreciated.Thank you!!

star wars was shot on 1080p, scarlet has 3k...its video format is a raw format like on dslr`s STILL mode and its not recording in a shitty codec like the d5 (in video mode h.264) or the cam you mentioned.

imac can handle redfootage, but you will get sooner or later problems because you cant add at least an esata raid or a good 10 bit monitor.

2k finishing is totally fine today...

Thank you very much!!! I've heard its awesome, Just a little afraid that My System wont work with it properly, as I mentioned in original post.

I work on a 3-year old 2.33ghz MacBook Pro w/ 3gb RAM, and I can get through a Red One edit just fine - it's all a matter of using proxies and then onlining with high res footage. It can be a bit slow, but it's definitely doable.

All of your questions have been answered exhaustively on these forums, just look around and I'm sure you'll find plenty of info. You can also check out the great RedCentre podcast at fxguide.com/redcentre

Also, as mentioned above, this is a real name forum.

Gringamo, think of your 3K scarlet as a 2.4K camera. That's where your best resolution lies. And you'll do fine with your computer. It might be a little slow to do a full-debayer, but I regularly edit Red footage on my 13" Macbook Pro when I'm travelling.
