Graeme or another wizard at Red...
Can you give a back-of-envelope explanation what the new FLUT Control in Redcine-X is doing? It seems like it wildly changes characteristics of ISO, curve, sat, exposure all in one, and does it it in very broad strokes.
Is there an approach other than "less is more"? Is there a benefit to using this control BEFORE or AFTER you adjust other parameters?
Any tips would be appreciated...

There’s a new “color science” that goes along with M-X; it includes a new REDcolor matrix and REDgamma tonal curve, with a new FLUT (floating LUT) setting that lets you vary the midgrays at an ISO setting without affecting clipping, so that you can really calibrate the camera’s output to agree with your lightmeter for a given ISO setting. Graeme Nattress described it to me as a LUT that looks for clipping in any of the channels and applies a rolloff as needed (much like the shoulder of a film’s H&D curve, if you will) to prevent the clipping from occurring. “It’s not as good as having an experienced colorist hand-grading each shot, but it’s a lot quicker, and a lot better than hard-clipping the highlights”, he said. Graeme said he could explain FLUT in more detail to me, but then he’d have to kill me; I’m happy to wait until RED can send up an M-X-equipped camera for testing, at which point I can really analyze the practical effect of the FLUT. From what I saw in the demo area, it looks quite promising.

I understand the theory behind it, as I've been following the developments behind the new color science.
I guess what I'm looking for is just a little coaching in regards to the use of the FLUT adjustment in the latest Redcine-X Beta that Jim posted last night. I was surprised at the strong change even a little move on the slider produced, and am just wondering what it's affecting other than the mids. Also curious if it should be used as a first "broad stroke", before adjusting the curve etc.

I'm just trying to find the new controls for REDcolor, REDgamma and FLUT in REDCineX build 54. This seems to be the latest build. Is there a newer one i'm missing?

FLUT Control is like a very fine degree of control on ISO, and it's calibrated in stops, so +1 FLUT is like doubling the ISO.
