  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Films that shouldn't have remakes and should be remade!

I don't understand how putting walkie talkies in the cops hands instead of shotguns is "Butchering his original work".

I felt it wasn't necessary but I wasn't thinking that it had killed the movie or anything.

It wasn't just the walkie-talkies. It was all the other "improvements" too.

I tell you a good one for a remake (and I think I heard it is in production)

Clash of the titans. The story is good... the animation in the original still kind of stands up today, but the acting is just so bad from the lead.

Yeah a new Clash is coming in a few months. Trailer went online a couple months back, I've also seen the trailer for it before two different showings of Avatar and before Book of Eli last night. I'm not sure what to think yet... The trailer doesn't make it look very good, IMO. It looks more like some kind of bastard child between LOTR and 300. But whatever, I'll go see it. I liked the original (and agree with your comments).

The Godzilla they did in 1998, the one in New York could probably be remade into something much better. The concept was good, but let down by weak characters and bad pacing.

I'd say if it was a lot faster paced, and had a lot more handheld or really quickly moving shots like any JJ Abrams movie, it would have been a lot more effective. It also would be great to recast that and rewrite it so the actors have a lot more to work with, and can deliver a better performance.

cloverfield?

Hands off The Shawshank Redemption and leave ET alone too!

Logan's Run would be a great remake if done properly.

I'm so hot for the original lead actress. :001_tt1: Of course, she's much older now.

If someone decides to even think of touching Akira Kurosawas "Seven Samurai" or "Yojimbo" i'm going to cry :(

Touch-and-die! list:

"Battle Royale"
"Bilbo" (Animated)
"Silent Hill" (I dont care about the game, this film is a masterpiece.)
"Pans Labyrinth"
"City Of God"
...and everything mr. Tim Burton been puttin a little piece of his magic brain into.

A really fantastic re-make in another hand is "The Hills Have Eyes". Absolute perfect!

A Peter Jackson remake of MOBY DICK.
A Lars Von Trier remake of The Sound of Music.
A Werner Herzog remake of The Wizard of Oz.
A Tim Burton remake of Snow-white and the seven Dwarfs?
Isn't The Alamo due for a remake? Spielberg?

some of these films would be absolutely destroyed had someone done a remake!

I disagree with that statement in general and a lot of film people seem to have adopted it. A remake doesn't alter the original, and poor remakes only serve to re-highlight the original film anyway. Just my 2c

Example: One of the most interesting ways to see how much of a master Hitchcock really was, is to watch Psycho, and it's color remake. Nearly identical on the surface, but one is a terrible, terrible movie.

As for remakes, I think a modern remake of "The Conversation" would be very interesting.

Let the Right One In........ oh shit, too late.

Yep "Let Me In" is gonna suck hard.
In the spirit of political correctness Matt Reeves is going to mutilate the story.
I am positive that the whole castration sub-plot will be entirely removed.

As far remakes I don't want to see...

Isn't The Alamo due for a remake?

You must've missed the 2004 version with Billy Bob Thornton and Jason Patric.

EDIT: This has turned out to be an interesting thread. I've been racking my brain trying to think of remakes that actually improve on the original — so far all I've come up with is The Thomas Crown Affair; while I love Steve McQueen, I gotta admit the 1999 Pierce Brosnan remake is a much more entertaining film.

Howard the Duck and Leonard Part 6 have some room for improvement.
