I am trying to view output from a 7d on an Acer 23" monitor, and the output image is chopped (not everything in view is on monitor screen), and displaying at 480. What am I doing wrong? The Acer monitor is a 1080p monitor.

Check some posts at cinema5d.com, I´m sure you´ll find it there.

Sanjin: REally? In what way is it bullshit? Maybe you have missed the whole train on this matter, I suggest you have a look at what syndicate.se for instance are doing with this "bullshit" geeez...:rolleyes5:

Edit: Hmm think I wrote something not so good there, thought you meant the camera Sanjin.. My bad.

The 7D's output is 1080i.

Still you should get a 1080i display on the monitor.

As far as what monitors crop... its trial and error.

Have a look at the list of LCD monitors that work with RED's HDMI output for a good start.

(I don't have a link- anyone?)

What, the 7D's output or the monitor?

yes, the output from the 7D is 480, and about 1/3 of the image is cut off too. it may be that the problem is with some autodetect function of the monitor itself..

hey guys,

I am working with 2 5d's today and have done testing with the 7d as well. Here's the rub... No matter what you "read" here is the skinny.

They only output a 1080 on PLAYBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! In live view mode (monitoring) you get 480p. That's 480 lines of HD not 720 or 1080. Thus the black all around the image on you hd monitor. PLease tell your friends who dont have one to experiment with as I went fingt crazy trying to figure this out so I could do video assist for these things!

One thing that might get you a bigger frame on screen might be to hook it up to a AJA IOHD and use it to upconvert it to 720. Just an Idea. I will test it and report back. Also don't bother getting that box from AJA to turn the hdmi into hdsdi as it needs a min. of 525 to work. I called aja and have read this on 5d forums as well.

That is true for the 5D but NOT the 7D. The 7D outputs 1620x910 from HDMI, after you crop out the red recording dot.

You need to turn overlays off and still have the red dot, but is certainly not 480.

Great news matt!

We were unable to get anything other than 480p out of the 7D's hdmi while recording or in live view. How are you getting 1620X910? Not playback right? Are there some setting we were not aware of. Please share where they are. Thanks!
