I have been considering buying a scarlet to shoot a film project that would involve some nighttime shots where it is not practical to use visible light. Will it be possible with the scarlet to shoot using infrared light like some cheaper dv cameras (sonys) are able to do? I think it would be a useful feature for many of the more amateur users.

Hi.
First : you MUST use your real names for you login.

And : don't know if it is planned but with some test here and there in the RECON section, you can hope that the sensor sensibility can go up enough to use your Scarlet in dark places with fully opened T-Stop.
(and personnally I think that nightshots, IN MOVIES I mean, when in infrareds it looks... just like crap... Being my personnal pint of view BUT I think that if you really want it you may use some post-production tricks instead of direct infrared shooting so you can always go back if you changed your mind and you can still have some flexibility for color grading)

I think the Infrared filter for the Red 1 sensor won't allow this, and Jim recently stated the new M-X sensor for the upgrade and Epic will have an even stronger IR filtration. So I'm guessing the Scarlet will be the same. I don't think there is an option for a camera built with a sensor with no IR filtration, but maybe you could get one on special order. Who knows?

I agree, and I was hoping the mystery feature #21 would be a swing-away hot (IR) filter to allow either filming in darkness with an infrared light source or daylight filming of infrared using a visible light blocking filter on the lens. Infrared shots in daylight could provide a very interesting creative option for other-worldly or dream-like effects.

Oh no! Martin threw the big hammer! That's nice. I like when that happens. :)
