hi guys! i'm new here as we just got the complete package of our red system.

evrything else works fine..

there's just one problem.

one of our red drives is giving us an "record_trans fault error" when we try and do a record.

we tried re-fromatting the drive, still we get the same problem.

this is a brand new camera and drive. we were testing it whwn this happened.

what might be the problem here? any insights?

thanks you so much!

Do you have more than one drive cable? If so test them and see if one works consistently. This fault is well known and is typically either a cable or the drive itself.

Put in a support ticket at Red.com, they'll look after you.

What is the camera build?

And please file a support ticket. If you just got your camera, firmware on the camera and the drive itself should not need updating. Get that support ticket filed at www.red.com/support so we can troubleshoot...

agree with Jimhare, this happened to me and we change the cable and it works!

The cable swap may work for you if that is the problem, however the SATA_TRANS.FAULT is reporting a fault within the drive path which doesn't always lead to being the cable. To thoroughly evaluate the situation and completely remedy the problem we should bring both the drive(s) and cable(s) involved into RED for evaluation.

If you absolutely need to continue shooting with this set up you should consider moving up to the release build, if you have not already.

If you have not filed a support ticket on the website yet please do or contact me directly and I will assist you:

we already submitted a trouble ticket to red, and still awaiting for some answers.

i just can't believe that this is happening, after waiting for 4 months for the red drive to arrive.

we cant even use it, because it doesn't work. and now i think we'll have to send it back, for them to maybe replace it. and wait some more.

i believe that the drive went to quality control, but why that after we have just gotten it, fresh outta the box...it doesn't work!?
