  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

scarlet high fps question

I understand that Red One only uses a portion of the sensor when shooting high fps (requiring for multiple set ups to get the same framing at different frame rates)

Does anyone know if the Scarlets to be will function in the same way, or if they will use the entirety of the sensor at high fps?

I'm really excited about the new iso capabilities being talked about... Any guesses as to the capabilities of the S35 in so far as low light?

Can't wait for the S35 to come out (summer right?)

Many thanks :cheers2:

the 2/3" scarlet does 120 at the full 3K resolution.

on some of the other cameras... i think the last word we heard was that some higher frame rates would be done at a smaller resolution - but i'm not 100% sure about that, and that may well have changed.

Bursts up to 150fps, I wonder what the max record time on the burst mode is. It does do 720p and 1080p up to 60fps, so you get higher frame rate in 3K.

well according to some of the last specs we saw:

2/3" brains did :
1-120fps in 3k with a 150 burst mode.

The s35 Scarlet did :
5k 1-30fps (72fps burst)
4k 1-30fps
2k 1-72fps

The FF35 scarlet did:
the same as the s35 but swap 5k for 6k.

Now that was the specs listed a while ago... who knows if they hold true even in this very moment.

It would be awesome if they came out with a model capable of 1,500+ fps, just to shake things up with Vision Research and their phantom series cameras.

I had a similar idea awhile back. A 3K 2/3" Epic Camera at an Epic price point that can do over 1000 fps. Seems like a reasonable trade off.

Yeah, that would be pleasing to anyone who wants or needs high speed and doesn't want to pay the $117,500 (Abelcine) for the Phantom HD Gold, or even the $144,000 for the 4K version. LOL. I think RED can do it with a few years of R&D.

This has been talked about many times here. Jim has said that he is not shooting for the highspeed market. He has also said that with new sensor tech comes higher speeds. In the mean time I just want to see the new fleet up and running.
