Anyone see the film?

Just saw it and well...bit disappointed with the script and all but it was definitely held up I feel by R.D Junior.

Nothing really to give away but obviously there will be a sequel and another after that for sure, just hope that the scripts are a lot better then this one was...

Haven't fully read any of the books, bits and pieces and it was a while ago yet I didn't feel that it was worth the name 'Sherlock Holmes'.

Personal opinion I guess...dunno...what do you all think? :sifone:

I liked it. Guy Richie has been hit and miss with me, but I liked the movie. I'm not a Holmes purist or a purist of any sort, really. I was happy that they kept the ramping frame rates in check. You know, a little style goes a long, long way. It can be overdone very quickly.

Saw it last weekend, enjoyed it. The frame ramping was a bit over done, but wasn't just style with out substance, they actually used it as a device that played into the narrative. Refreshing. Enjoyed the art direction a lot... nice title sequences too. Nothing ground breaking, but a pretty solid film and very entertaining.

Didn't care for it. For a Holmes story, it didn't have a lot of mystery. The laughable masterplan of the villain undermined the credibility of the hero IMO. The success of this film no doubt has secured its franchise hopes but I hope they workshop the next script with some mystery writers.

Have had to hold off from watching this because I promised my mother I would watch it with her when I go and see her next week. I am a purist. One of my middle names is Moriarty quite literally named after his nemesis (my mother was the spark of my adulation to Holmes). I am worried to say the least and really don't want to see it as much as I do.

I am reserving any opinon until I see it - I have very serious doubts. I don't like the idea of an ex-studio exec raping the good name of Sherlock Holmes and turning him into a Hollywood action hero. I just hope that the action in the trailer was just to draw in the punters.

Felt a bit long, but I liked it. The chemistry between RDJr and Jude Law was perfect. Great buddy flick.

"Meat or the potatoes?"

They did make Holmes more of a bad ass than I have witnessed in the past but it wasn't overdone IMO.

The theater I saw it in was a bit soft but the I agree with Brandon. The art direction was first rate.

Good performances, good chemistry between the cast, etc.. A decent amount of action, perhaps even a bit too much. Some was definitely a bit over the top, but that's what audiences want to watch these days -- or so it often seems. Holmes as a bad ass works well and filled a little void that was always present for me with the original Holmes character and subsequent spin-offs.

Art direction, FX work and overall spit and polish on this film were top notch.

The story pretty much sucked. No mystery, no suspense, just blah... Good for munching popcorn and not thinking about much of anything. It's freakin Sherlock Holmes, I wanted to try and solve a mystery, dammit. WTF? Oh well... I'm sure it's still a lot better than the Chipmunks squeakuel, which my kids are begging to see and I'm avoiding.

Early on she introduced herself as a girl from 'New Jersey' so that part was okay.

The movie overall was somewhat 'meh' for me. I felt that Richie was making the movie he always seems to make (Lock, Stock, Snatch, RocknRolla), but that it didn't work too well in the Holmes setting.

Nice visuals, Downey Jr. and Jude Law were quite good, but the story was soft with too much action for Holmes.

No soul in this film. The ironic detachment all the way through the film leaves me unimpressed and rather bored.
All this over-the-top-cool Tarantino style stuff is like the filmic equivalent to a Double Whopper with Cheese. Super sized.

Looks yummy from a distance, you take a bite and it does not taste remotely as good as you hoped and afterwards you wish you wouldn't have eaten it :-)

Everyone was great in the film - perfecting casting and great lighting too. The dialogue was very good, and I personally wasn't too bothered by the lack of real mystery in the story. It was a great popcorn flick.

I liked the movie, but I'm a little burned on this color grading, a la transformers. Where ever this film had the right design(color) for the location we get punched in the face with that. Frankly it may have helped by hiding things.
