Hi guys
im totally new to this forum and in general to the red world, i have a question to understand perfectly how to work in the best way with red material and nuke (our compositor software).
actually im working on a short feature film that as lots of green screen, and seems aswell lots of noise, ive get for post production all sequences in dpx format ( tiff non compressed would be better?) and and trying to figure out if in nuke i need to get the footages having raw data checked..
then i will apply some cleaning with furnace denoise, after re exporting that clean sequence i will move on with keying...im right? there is any way of improving the footage that seems a bit blurry?
thanks for any help

Hi
hidalgo
do you think you can send me 3 different frame grabs from your material?
Tiffs would be ideal for now.
I would like to see what you are dealing with and see if its something i see common.
My next project is in NUKE and all green screen so id like to see what your fighting perhaps i may run into the same thing.
Or perhaps there may be a workflow involving transcoding which you may want to test.

My email is
googulplx@aol.com
thanks good luck
Luis

Just a couple of notes:

- I believe the latest Nuke can work with RAW files directly
- You shouldn't have to export anything out of Nuke to work with it again in Nuke, you should be able to just exercise the hierarchy in what you need to get done?

there are all sorts of tutorials on the web for Nuke and other apps, and also greenscreen keying techniques.

g'luck!

Thats great news Sarah.
Do you know if Nuke uses the new color science or old color science, that could attribute to noise in the image.
I have not heard is AE has fixed that either. So I tend to transcode before i go to AE
Even though AE sees the RAW.
Maybe its a similar issue with Nuke.
Just some thoughts.

Hi Sarah,

Import R3D files - make sure all the R3D settings are at their defaults - it's best not to color correct the Raw footage in the read node if you can help it (recommendation from TheFoundry) as the 16 bit color is now converted to 32 bit floating point. Make sure you've selected the appropriate color space.

Then work as normal.

Best Wishes
Ziggy

thats interesting...so for start i can use a .r3d file instead of starting to compress...
still ive not understand if the "raw data" check box most be on or off (even in case of r3d files) and eventually a way to denoise and sharp the footage in nuke...
@BigLu of course i can maybe you can up couple of frames too so we can compare them...

p.s.
oh yes, ive read that with dv footage and better cleaning usually there is that tecniques of changing the colour space to yuv, blur the channel and then switch back to rgb, this is not needed due to improve edges in green screen cleaning with red footage?
