So I'll be buying a Scarlet Fixed around September / October 2010, and I'll be using CF cards as a medium. I looked at the prices for the RED CF cards and for comparable SanDisk cards, and I simply can't justify, nor afford the price difference of the RED cards. From what I've heard in other threads RED made their cards because other manufacturer's cards were not reliable enough. But couldn't I use something like this instead, which is half the price and has a claimed 600x speed?

Sorry if this has been answered in another thread.

There would not be anything wrong with trying it for normal shooting, i.e. 30fps or lower. Any high speed shoting I would only use the Red CF cards.

Thanks for your help.

I'll be doing a fair amount of high-speed shooting so the RED cards seem neccessary then. Is there a speed difference between the 8GB and 16GB cards? Because there is quite a price difference per GB between the cards ($495 for 16GB, $165 for 8GB). I would be much better off getting 2 or 3x 8GB cards instead of a single 16GB one.

There will almost surely be other media options by the fall 2010. Best policy is wait and see what's available when you buy your camera. When it becomes available. Not much sense in anticipating -- or buying anything now.

I don't think there is much difference in the speed of the CF cards, but the biggest difference is the size of the cards. Double the storage size therefor the higher the price for the 16GB card.
