  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon 50D and 14mm Master Prime

Hi Tom, The 14mm covers about 31.5mm image circle. From that you can work out the area of coverage at various aspect ratios.

So this lens will not really work with Epic X, Pawel!

Yes, it will. The 30mm x 15mm of MX includes look around area and it won't matter if that is vignetting slightly WFO. All the 5k will be fully covered.

That's for the entire sensor area, not the area that is recorded. The recorded area would be:

5.39µm x 5,120 = 27.6mm wide

and, for 16 x 9 aspect ratio, 13.8mm high

So, the minimum image circle required to cover 16x9 aspect ratio in 5k will be 30.8mm.

So, all MPs, RRPs, S4s and UPs will cover full 5k on MX sensor.

Jesus, I wish I knew this weeks ago! :blushing:

Thanks, Pawel!

I think you might have mixed 16 x 9 and 2 x 1 aspect ratios because 27.6mm / 13.8mm = 2.

So 16 x 9 won't probably be possible in 5k since 27.6mm / (16/9) = 15.5mm which is greater than the height of the sensor. If the full 15mm height of the sensor could be used for recording, the image width in 16 x 9 ratio would be 26.67mm = 4,948 pixels (maximum theoretical 16 x 9 image size for the sensor). This would of course mean that the look around area would only be on the left and right side of the recorded area. Minimum image circle for this image size would be 30.6mm.

Good point, but it will still cover it.

27.6mm x 15.5mm results in image circle 31.66mm, which will be still covered by MP 14mm. Just!
