Hey all - I just got back from Burning Man (woo hoo!) and my Nikon D300S was waiting for me. (After 6 white-out dust storms in 5 days, glad I didn't have a nice camera body with me!).

It takes both SDHC and CF cards, so for kicks I grabbed one of my 16GB Red CF cards, popped it in, formatted it, and...it won't record in the D300S.

Anybody know if there's a reason for this? Anybody know if the 8GB cards will work?

Just read about the Canon 7D - harrumph! I feel like I keep mistiming my orders! Oh well, I've already got a bunch of Nikon accessories.

The 16GB RED CF cards don't work in the 5D2 either, which really blows. I wonder if it has something to do with the secret sauce RED uses to make the 16GB cards so that the RED camera will recognize only those 16GB cards.

But at least my 8GB RED cards work in the 5D2 without a problem.

Our 16GB cards are too fast for DSLRs. They make them dizzy.

The fact that Red had to ship new CF readers for the camera should tell you something about the 16gb cards. I would wonder whether they even qualify as "compact flash" at this point if other cameras can't read them... although they transfer over a firewire CF reader so... maybe.

I think that if any camera can work with the RED 16's would be the 1D IV as it can read the newest and fasted 90MB/s UDMA optimized, will test it as soon as I get it, it would be nice to be able to just use the RED 16's rather then have to buy other cards that in turn will not work with RED's cameras.
