  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Meet Snappy @ ISO 800

Can't stop watching this video. The R3D must look incredible. Nice one man!

great image Jarred, also it seems that you're a reptiles fan..

I really do not mean to be.... but for some reason, every once in awhile, something slimy just mysteriously gets dropped off in my "kitchen".. :)

B2Pro Daylight Silver reflector. Love that light.

Definitely looks like a good light.

Is there any way you guys would be able to post some footage from a Tungsten light? I'm curious as to how much of a noise difference there will be and how much more tolerable the MX is to tungsten lighting.

We have 6 Leopard Geckos in my house, and I kind of think of my dog as a bit reptilian at times, so I'm amazed I haven't shot them on RED yet. Not to mention the crazy box turtle Michaelangelo who's been around for 22 years.

Lots of love for the blacks.. but there are a few other things special about shooting with the new sensor + color science.

First off the highlights.. nobody mentioned those :)

Remember this is a wet creature.. lit by a silver parabolic umbrella. There are some highlights in there...and look how nice the rolloff is.

The creative advantage of having those exposure goal posts expand is worth mentioning as well.

I didn't want to shoot wide open here.. only his eyeballs would of been in focus as I was right up on him.. (his front claws are actually attacking the lens hood).

So.. knowing I needed a specific (deeper) stop to hit the Depth of Field that I wanted, I needed to either add more light to keep the 1/48th shutter, or increase the rating.

Adding light would of been not so good for our slimy little friend.. and since there is so much black/dark in the shot, I might of been a bit concerned about raising to ISO 800 before.. but not anymore.

It is easy to get lost in the technical aspects of shooting and exposing the RED. Its getting easier. You can get a dozen different explanations and a dozen different workflows talking to a dozen people... but it is getting easier.

Jarred,

Could you share the following?

Lens aperture?

Lens?

Light distance and output (type or wattage)?

I also notice that I could watch the clip in FCP but not watch it in QT player in Snow Leopard.

That B2Pro lighting site is very impressive. Anyone know of any Grip packages in SoCal that include a lot of B2Pro gear? I would love to shoot a short form project with several of their umbrella options. Love the concept.

Cheers - #19

niiiiccceeee :-)

lol, never has Sebastian looked so sexy.

Grrrr, I want this camera now!!

Looks very impressive! Nice Blacks! Its freaky being that close to him.

Any idea how many footcandles? t-stop?

Yes please when you guys post images it would be incredibly useful to know footcandles and lens aperture along with camera ISO setting. The image looks great, but without this info we are only getting half the picture.

They actually have a place in Los Angeles you can call them direct. Careful though Blair.. the lights are addictive :)

I'm really impressed with the noise pattern in the areas of the image that are out of focus and a couple stops below optimum exposure. These are the areas that always require extra work in the grade with the One. The "grain" structure looks very nice.

Roll on team!

I'll third that - info please ...

Also, would it be possible to get a hold of a 4k Tiff?

We are just posting stuff as we go along. When we are finished, we'll post stuff for critical viewing. All you are getting now is a sneak-peek during the process.
