looks like a pretty sweet setup

looks like a pretty sweet setup

It is and also you can make a lighter variant if you don't want to take extra audio recording,
then matte box because you can have screw in filters, keep FF because the most of Leica lenses have focus turn way more then 300 degrees, etc...

I'll keep that in mind with my 7D

looks like a pain to use in anything but a studio application.

No any pain,

it's a lightweight, easy of use and precise with any sort of handheld movement, also use of FF is must have in certain situations...

Also I'm working to finish Glidecam Pro 400 rig for 7D.

For studio work I do have a couple of other options like a Manfrotto trpod/head, Vinten tripod/head and Gitzo fluid head with traveler carbon lightweight tripod.

Have one Cullman in a car window mount, CineSadle and soon Glide Track.

Ha- looks a lot easier to handhold than most cameras...

Yeaaah, that's true...

Scarlet should have EVF behind to balance the lens in front and make whole body/lens easy to handle...

I hope that I gave with this rig a good enough idea about how it is easy to operate with DSLR sort of body design that has VF in this center position...

99 % of professional camera operators, imo, would say the opposite. Hand held balance of camera is best when most of the weight is behind the viewfinder. The spine is the strongest part of the body, so makes sense to have most of the weight supported by that, on the shoulder. Aaton, makers of the best handheld cameras know this. Arri know this. All professional hd camcorders 900/varicam/p2 are based on the same principal.

By the nature of film camera design you have to go on the side with weight that is behind viewfinder just because you deal with a camera mechanism and film magazines but in this case you do not have anything left like that parts. That's why still camera like a Leica/Oskar Barnack's rangefinder design and here DSLR design do not have anything to do with Aaton/Arri sort of film camera design. 7D is an ideal camera for this sort of rig. 5DMK2 and 1DMK4 are bit heavier and it could be possible that make a certain balance issue with this kind of handheld rig...

It's made in a sense of Oskar Barnack's two most famous camera design credos: 'Camera that is your companion for all situations - "an integral part of the eye" and "an extension of the hand" '.

This doesn't look well balanced. Although neat-looking in general.

Sanjin, I wasn't talking about stills camera form factor. I was responding to your comments about the scarlet, a camera which is primarily a moving picture device. Clearly, stills cameras form factor is based on a different design principal. The scarlet will be used more for moving image capture, so should mirror the ergonomics of the best balanced cameras out there.

I dunno Sanjin, why not put the sound devices and zoom on your belt somehow
that way you can ride the levels when needed

this sound recording is optional only and everyone can customize that.

It's all open, to record sound yourself in any way you like or you can hire sound guy as well.
