I am sure that many of you are aware of this rig, after all it has been out since the 1990's but here is a cool video with its creator working specifically with the RED. One of the staff at my school has one and has used it with RED. He says he will never shoot on the shoulder without it again.

thanks for sharing. I love my Easyrig 3! I'll have to checkout this vario thing at NAB

agreed, we just took delivery on ours and cant believe how light it is for how strong it is.

Must have for shoulder shoots over 10 minutes.

One of the coolest methods I have seen for holding a camera is the pillow method of cinematographer Christopher Doyle

It is in this video here, long vid but worth the watch. Look for the pillow tied to his stomach. The pillow part is at the 4:00 minute mark.

EasyRig 3 Cinema 600 + ET Mantis + GlideCam 4000 Pro = a complete handheld system for R1 that can be also usefull for some sort of or à la steadicam shots.

Thanks for sharing guys..

Very cool,

Just a quick question,
with the EasyRig does one need special training? Like with a steady cam? Someone once told me that you can't just pick up a steady cam and learn it, you could hurt your back doing that and need training so since the Easyrig is mostly on your back I don't suppose the same logic applies does it or is it safe for new users to pick up and go?

I would imagine it's completely safe. I have operated a steadicam a few times with no formal training and have never injured myself. Although, I'm not going on record as reccomending that!

Thanks for the link,

i just purchased a Vario 4. I will let you know how i get on.

Has anyone ever used the Easyrig 2.5 with the Red? It supports upto 33lb's and I'm just curious as to whether it would support a Red with a prime, a battery, FF4/Matte box whilst recording to CF?

Yes.

Yes.

The EasyRig 2.5 consists of (5) different weight load capacities. Per your requirements, the EasyRig 2.5 600 will support loads in the range of 26 - 35 lb.

Any details on the Vario4 pricing and any group buys from 16x9inc? Thanks. I think that's a great idea to be able to use it for any weight from lighter camera setups to heavy.

Thank you. What kind of weight are we looking at for the setup I suggested above (prime, CF unit, battery, FF4 and MB-20 matte box)?

The best thing to do is to load your camera and weigh it. Many people have guesstimated only to have to change the internal shock-system.

The EasyRig trend for RED users is the EasyRig 3 - 600; but, it varies.

We have begun deliveries of the Vario. I'll make sure more info. is on our website soon after the holidays.

As for the group buy; it all depends on interest.
