Will the new Scarlet have the option of taking "top" and "bottom" rails like the Red One?

It is a nice feature because it allows the use of many accessories, some typical and some custom.

Thanks.

These are the parts you are looking for:

  • EPIC/Scarlet BASE PLATE – $500
  • TOP MOUNT – $200

Thank you Justin. But may I ask you; where did you get those photographs. Where can I see other photos of the Scarlet. They don't seem to be on the Red website, or, at least I can't find them there.

Good websites.

Good websites.

Thank you very, very much Justin. You've helped a lot, and the websites are great.

Do you know whether Red has a waiting list for the Scarlet coming out this summer? If so, what does it take to get on it?

Glad you find them helpful!

Someone asked Jarred about getting on waiting lists and if RED One owners would get priority for Scarlets. This is his reply:

Those details we will sort out as we get close... there is still lots of time and since the machines are already moving, we should have built up a good amount of stock by the time Scarlets start shipping.

So, a little off topic, but I hope there is something that can be done about the positioning of the shoulder mounts. The way the cameras are built there shows a very front heavy configuration. And, on the second photo, I don't know about you, but my eye isn't level with my shoulder, hopefully that EVF can move up quite a bit. Either way, I hope those shoulder mounts will be able to move towards the front quite a bit.

Having played a lot with 'short form' cameras - DSLRs (and being a steadicam learner and therefore intested in balance/configuration)

It is my opinion that hanging the camera under rails like this is the future of shoulder mount - much more steady that all that mass above the rails

But the handles need to be forward of the camera to make it drop onto the shoulder

Also the EVF is obviously in the wrong place especaially if you are left eye shooter such as myself

Yeah, I agree. Having the mass lower is a definite help. Still, there needs to be more weight in the back of the camera if it's configured somewhat like that. It looks way too front heavy. Honestly I have no doubts, these cameras are so modular you could set it up so Quasimodo would be comfortable shoulder mounting it.

In your avatar you are holding the camera in front of the CofM so it drops onto your shoulder

It is not balanced fore aft on your shoulder though - if you let the handle go the cam would plop forwards

If the handles are in front of the CofM of the cam then the effect is similar

Indeed many configs - no doubt

Im playing with configs on my 7d right now - but the 'short form' opens option not available on my EX1

Do you know if it's possible to get just the Top Handle without the rails? All I need is the handle, and I don't want to spend $200 to get the rails too, at least not at this stage.
