I am trying to consolidate a project edited on a distant workstation. Here is the fact:

Project was edited using 2k Media directly imported in FCP.
I have the original R3D files mirrored but not the imported .mov files that the editor worked on due to space limitations.

What I have:
The original project (70MB)
The original R3D files mirrored

How can I reimport only the used media based on the project I have using the original R3D files?

Any help appreciated.

Markus

What phase of the project are you embarking on, or what are you needing to do with this project (i.e. Online, Offline)? Would help on how to advise.

I just worked a similar project. Clipfinder is your best friend in this situation.

Fairly simple workflow:
1. Open the FCP project file, ignoring all the "Media Missing" stuff.
2. Export an XML
3. Run conform on the XML using clipfinder, reconnecting to whichever proxies you want.
4. Open new XML in FCP.
5. Profit. (?)

There are obviously variations in these steps, depending on if you want to work in Color with the R3Ds or render to something else. But that's a good starting point.

I am prepping a short excerpt for the crew located in Germany. There will be no additional stages except a DVD for the beamer. When the project is finished it will go to a Baselight grading system. All the steps to there I know.

Sorry for the late reply. Busy shooting.....

I will go this way and report what happened. There was no way to go within FCP. A seasoned editor tried but nothing worked. Will try the XML way and see what happens.

Ben,

it is a pitty but I tried what you recommended but gut stuck not only half the way. Must be because I am a cinematographer.
Exporting an XML went well. Importing into clipfinder worked well but whenever I run a conform, the computer tells me that it does not find any of the required items and simply leaves everything as is. Could you please give me a short help on how to do it right?

Thank you

Markus

Being located in ould it be that you

Being located in Germany, could it be that you used umlauts in your file path? RED software seemingly doesn't like this…

I did not use mutated vowels in the path and read all that stands in the online help. First problem solved. My version of Clipfinder was not able to search for R3D instead of mov. Still it took 4 search runs before the program found most of the R3d files. It does not work with files that due to the size restrictions consist of more than one part.

I will check on further since I gues it might interest others who did not initially work with clipfinder as I did.

Yes, it does. But if you edit with proxies, you'll need a Colorfixer run.

The project was edited using FCP log with the 2k Quicktimes that FCP makes automatically. As far as I know Proxies do not work properly in FCP so we did not use any.

In this case the file size should have no influence.
