To my understanding Red is looking for a place in the LA/Hollywood area.
As Jim wrote in the CML:
"We are now looking at a place in LA/Hollywood to house a RED office as a 1st step. Being behind the "Orange Curtain" has not helped us."

I think this is a big step for the Red company, I think this is stepping from the penetrating marketing strategy step into the real technological competition where the big names are playing.
Jim is a master in marketing, everyone who is technically dealing with motion picture cameras knows that. Now Red will have to prove that it is not only about marketing.

For some reason I have a strong feeling they will know how to do that .... however it is going to cost us. No more $17,500 cameras.
The future will tell.

This sounds like FUD to me... We already have the approximate prices of the new cameras, and given how far along in development they are, it's unlikely that they're going to change much. And they announced the RED Ranch in Vegas before the new cameras, so if they're jacking the prices to pay for the new places, then they already would have.

Total FUD.

FUD?

FUD?

FUD?
I think you are digging to much into ... nothing to dig into.
Yes Red already announced prices and we know that.
Red is making a very simple and smart move of stepping into the hard core territory of the motion picture industry.
Sound very logic move to me.
FUD?

The point is that raising prices just because they're 'stepping into the hardcore territory of the motion picture industry' (which they pretty much have already, through their products) kind of goes against what they have said and what we've seen of RED's general vision and business strategy. They're always going to make cameras that are priced to be accessible to us.

Moore's Law.

So things should either get cheaper or improved specs for the same price. Now they can choose to raise prices to do more, but remember we are in the aggressive arena of the electronics treadmill. 5 years from now you'll be blown away by what's available and the price point.

im sure they will have an office in LA... doesnt mean the whole facility will be moved there.. They will keep the lake forest location as well as the new ranch.. im almost certain of that.

An LA/Hollywood office repair & retail shop would be very much welcomed.

Definitely agree. I've been hoping for this for a while, makes things a lot easier if you have issues with a camera. Not that that has happened to me very often, but it would be comforting to know there's no 1 hour plus drive if that were to happen.

Sure makes a lot more sense than Vegas.

I think the plan is still to make Vegas the grand Red Ranch HQ, with LA being an outpost (maybe retail/repair, not sure)

Opening these offices won't impact the retail pricing on the cameras. Red needs an "Embassy" in Hollywood to manage the marketing message, discredit FUD, test-drive new product and I hope they have the good sense to put a kick-ass 4K screening room so they can showcase the whole point of why they're unique: the 4K (soon to be 5K+) footage.

Just calm down and wait. Maybe Mr. Jannard himself will make things clear. Everything else is pure speculation.

He he, already there ... and big name? ... ditto :emote_popcorn:

whats a fud?
It is a female urination device that allows a woman to pee while standing.

Also, it is a most overused, least understood gimmicky fashionable word around this forum; "Fear, uncertanity & doubt" professional tactic of marketing & propaganda. If you dare to open your mouth against a conventional idea, you'll be kindly reminded that you are a "fud" somehow...
