I've trying to work with footage that has drop frames and wondering how others are getting it working.

REDrushes doesn't render out the complete clip
RedCine crashes
RedAlert - won't work as its a one clip wonder
Proxies - crash FCP

surely if the camera can drop frames and continue recording you should be able to just render out the captured footage.
Cutting around the drop frames seems really slow and crap

I am having this same issue on set. One clip has 4 drop frames, in two seperate clusters of two. The one cluster is a typical drop frame, but the other does all of the things Rory mentioned. If the dropped frames are viewed in redCine, the program crashes. The same goes for Red Alert. In RedRushes and RocketCine-X, it processes out until it reaches the corrupted drop frame and then begins to just process the previous few frames over and over until it reaches the end of the clip. The proxies do play back fine, and function in FCP, so they can be used for the edit in place of the ProRes files I've been transcoding. The shot is the best take, so I just want to make sure our .r3d file is fine. I assume it is minus the missing 4 frames, but just making sure if anyone else has anything they can tell me.

Thanks

I have had no luck with these clips in Redcine or Redalert. I get a crash or a crash on quit when one is loaded.

In FCP, working with proxies I get different results on two different systems. On our Leopard based system, I can see the data loss in the frame, but the clips play over it and there is no crashing. In our Snow Leopard system, I get a green frame instead of the corrupted frame and no frames will play after that, all are green. Then... CRASH!!!

I have a handfull of this to deal with, plan being to make prores transcodes of just the clips in question on the Leopard system... edit with proxies for the rest of the clips like normal. Haven't tried this yet.
