I have a client whose team has not had any experience yet posting Red footage. But they are pretty handy at FCP, so I'm guessing that they can make a L&T/ Color finish work pretty well.
Not being a post guy, I have some questions for the group here:
Will 4KHD give a "cleaner" and faster transcode, as it does with Scratch?
Is 16x9 OK? Somewhere in the back of my mind I recall that when L&T was introduced, 16x9 was "untested", or buggy, and 2:1 was preferred.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Harry

FCP still won't L&T 4K footage. It will automatically run it at 2K. However, Color will go back to the 4K when you get to the grading stage.

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. Perhaps I'm not being clear. I'm well aware that 4K material is scaled to 2K during L&T. I'm wondering specifically if 4K HD works better or worse than 4K 16x9. I'm also wondering if the 16x9 aspect ratio is officially supported. If you read the PDF that comes with the FCP plugin, you will see that it indicates "official" support for 2:1 and not 16x9. Of course, that document is over a year old and lots of folks are using L&T. Just looking for confirmation either way.
Cheers,
Harry

Whoops. My bad. Sorry about that.

I don't know if 16x9 is "officially" supported. I did, however, just finish two projects in 2K 16x9 without any trouble. So, at least in my case, it works, even if not officially. Take that with a grain of salt until there's a bigger sample set, though.

Thanks. I figured that there would be lots of howling here on the forum if it DIDN'T work! ;)
They might just use RedRushes or Clipfinder anyway so I think I'm fine. Decided to go 4KHD.
Cheers,
Harry
