OK, seems kinda silly but I have a live streaming shoot in a studio environment coming up. The session centers on audio equipment but I want to put a best foot forward. I can do the firewire feed to the uplink with my Canon XHG1 but would rather show off the RED on this shoot as there are some players who will be in the room.

So, how best do I take my RED one out to a Firewire IEEE1394 port on a laptop that is uplinking to the publishing server?

Anyone done this with their RED?

Thanks. Looks like Grass Valley makes something that is around 600-700 USD.

A bit pricey for what I was wanting to do as I do not have a foreseeable use beyond this one thing.

Still looking for other answers but it looks like I will shoot with the XHG1.

Have you considered the lookaround area that is displayed via the HDMI or HDSDI outputs.
Basically you will have a shaded lookaround displayed outside what is actually being recorded.
Playback of course displays to the edges.
Just a thought....

Look Around

Look Around

In the latest versions of Build 21, there is an option to make the Look Around transparent, so you wouldn't have that as an issue.

Everybody has a Red. Impress your client by using the best tool for the job. Name drop the Red if you must, but don't try to use something that's not really appropriate.

Downconverter to Composite input through a DVX-100 or Rent a DVCPro Deck capture 720 on the fly.

Thanks everyone for all of the input. As always, I have learned a couple of things from all of you.

We have decided to go with Nates advice and use the Canon cams for this. As Nate says, "using the best tool for the job" makes the most sense.

This forum is one of the most valuable tools for the RED yet!
